MAC Hyper Real SkinCanvas Balm, $87.

To set the scene, I have normal/dry skin that lovessss to stay hydrated. In summer heat, I do experience some shine in common areas like my T-zone after a few hours of wear, SO I like to tailor my primer application to suit different areas of my face.

I first go in with the M.A.C Cosmetics Hyper Real SkinCanvas Balm 50ml to hydrate the skin, which allows my foundation to glide on effortlessly.

Although this isn't technically a primer, it leaves my skin feeling SO hydrated, prepping it perfectly for makeup application.

Here are some quick facts on my fave base hydrator:

  • Hydrates skin for 24 hours.

  • Soothes irritation.

  • Improves skin radiance and softness.

  • Helps gently refine skin texture.

  • Ideal for dull and dehydrated skin types.

  • Contains Japanese Peony extract, 2.5% niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, ceramides, mango butter and avocado butter.

In areas where I experience shine throughout the day, I like to press some elf Mattifying Putty Primer — Universal Sheer to keep shine at bay. This primer is ideal for oily skin types and works to mattify skin and control shine. It feels super light on the skin and mattifies instantly.

Let's get better acquainted:

  • Velvet texture.

  • Works to minimise the appearance of pores and imperfections.

  • Ideal for normal to oily skin types.

  • Contains kaolin clay and white charcoal.

  • Vegan and cruelty-free.

Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation, $79.

Once we are prepped and primed, I always reach for the same foundation when I've got a long haul day/event coming up, and it is none other than Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Makeup Foundation.

This foundation is available in 60 shades and offers a medium-full coverage.

It has EVERYTHING you need when you think of a long-lasting foundation.

It's waterproof, heat-resistant and formulated for long wear (up to 24 hours!), leaving a natural matte finish to the skin.

It's suitable for all skin types, however, those with oily-combo skin types are usually BIG fans.

Although this is a medium-full coverage foundation, it feels SO light on the skin, which is a big plus for me.

As I have normal/dry skin and this foundation offers a natural matte finish, prepping my face with the super hydrating M.A.C Cosmetics Hyper Real Skincanvas Balm 50ml has been the perrrrfect combo if I want staying power as well as a slight glow to the skin.

You can absolutely leave it here. However, if your skin sits on the drier side — or you want to add a dew factor to your base — I would recommend mixing in M.A.C COSMETICS Studio Radiance Serum Powered Foundation for an extra touch of glow.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Loose Translucent Powder, $64.

Now we all know that setting powders is an essential step when it comes to helping your makeup last longer, however, it doesn't have to be a one-size-fits-all approach.

A super versatile setting powder, and one that is almost undetectable on the skin, is the MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Loose Translucent Powder.

This is a product that I have in both my personal and professional kit that I know I can always count on.

It should be applied as the last step in your makeup routine (once all cream products have been applied) and is formulated to appear invisible under Ultra HD 4k technology. It's translucent, can be applied to all skin tones, and works to blur the look of imperfections whilst delivering a natural matte finish.

This powder has a non-drying formula and is also super hard working, as it aims to minimise the appearance of pores/fine lines thanks to its light-diffusing effects.

It's extremely light on the skin and whilst it keeps oil/shine at bay, it's super buildable, making it perfect for any reapplication needed!

If you have a drier skin type and find that powders can sometimes catch or puddle in certain areas of the face, I encourage you to only set areas of the face that you feel need it!

For me, these areas are usually under my eyes and in my T-zone.

However, I generally don't apply any powder to the perimeters of my face or the upper points of my cheeks — they don't experience much shine/movement throughout wear and I'm happy for their natural finish to carry through.

Another handy tip is to apply your powder with a damp beauty sponge to allow a natural finish to be left on the skin.

I like to use this technique on my under eyes, where I want to feel set in place, but still hydrated.

Along with the Makeup Up For Ever Ultra HD Loose Translucent Powder, two of my all-time FAVOURITE powders for those with drier skin types are the M.A.C Cosmetics Mineralize Skinfinish Natural and Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Matte Velvet Skin Concealer, $50.

Under eyes can be extremely tricky, especially when it comes to wanting your concealer to stay in place all day long.

If you have drier under eyes or find that concealer often creases/cracks, be sure to apply a hydrating eye cream to this area before foundation/concealer application, because hydrated skin is happy skin.

When I want LONG-lasting results and don't mind a bit more coverage, I always opt for the MAKE UP FOR EVER Matte Velvet Skin Concealer.

This is a full-coverage concealer that resists transfer, sweat and water whilst working to conceal blemishes and dark circles.

I especially LOVE the large doe-foot applicator and find that a little bit goes a long way with this product.

Here's its dating profile:

  • Gives skin full coverage with a natural matte finish.

  • Can be used to conceal, correct and contour.

  • Use under the eyes or anywhere on the face.

  • Extra-large applicator and precision tip for easy use all over the face.

  • Wears for up to 24 hours.

  • Resists water, sweat, and transferring.

  • Feels lightweight on the skin.

This definitely leaves a matte/velvet look on the skin, so if you want more of a dewy look, my recommendation would be to mix a luminous concealer in with the MUFE Concealer — together they will work wonders.

Whilst this concealer is excellent at setting and staying in place, it's important to remember that we are human, and the eye area moves a lot with our facial expressions!

A tiny bit of movement or creasing over time is quite normal and can be reset by using your ring finger to pat out any areas of lines/creasing.

MAC Cosmetics Lip Pencil, $40, and Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Liner, $32.

I don't know about you, but lip products are one of the FIRST things to wear off for me. However, I've got a tip that might save you a few hours between top-ups. I like to grab a long-lasting lip liner and instead of only lining the perimeter of my lips, I colour my whole lips in with the liner and then go in with a lippy/balm or gloss over the top of that.

I've found that because the consistency of a lip liner is much more static, it seems to last on the lip much longer and therefore, so does your perfect pout!

Two of my favourite lip liners to do this with are M.A.C Cosmetics Lip Pencil in the shade Boldly Bare for the inner lip along with Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Liner in the shade Warm Taupe for the perimeter of my lip.

Both of these liners are super creamy on the lip and glide on like butter!

If you want to know a bit more about them, here are some fast facts:

M.A.C Cosmetics Lip Pencil

  • Creamy yet long-wearing lipliner.

  • Use to define, fill and line the lips.

  • Wear alone or under other lip products.

  • Helps prevent bleeding, feathering and fading.

  • Smooth formula won't pull on lips.

  • Matte velvet finish.

  • Applies quickly and precisely.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Liner

  • Long-lasting lip pencil.

  • Highly pigmented.

  • Matte-velvet finish.

  • Wear alone or layer under lipstick or gloss.

  • Creamy texture for seamless application.

  • Won't skip or tug.

  • Wax-based formula.

  • Cruelty-free.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Mist & Fix 24H Spray, $48.

Last but most certainly not least, a setting spray to lock everything in!

Whilst some may be dubious towards setting sprays, I personally like using them.

They're great at amalgamating powder/cream products as well as adding moisture back into the skin and aiding the longevity of makeup.

I have a few fave setting sprays but one that I've been reaching for constantly is the MAKE UP FOR EVER Mist & Fix Spray.

It feels quite wet upon application, but once it has dried down, it feels undetectable on the skin!

Let's cover some quick facts:

  • Helps your makeup lasts up to 24 hours*.

  • Instantly hydrates skin and adds radiance.

  • Alcohol-free formula.

  • Contains hyaluronic acid and aloe vera.

  • Improved pump delivers a micro-fine mist.

  • Removes overly powdered look.

  • Ideal for normal to dry skin.

  • Made from 93% natural origin ingredients.

Whilst this setting spray is most suited to those with normal/dry skin, if you're looking for a matte finish or have oily/combo skin then the MAKE UP FOR EVER Mist & Fix Matte Spray will be a much better option for you! Formulated with kaolin clay and mattifying extracts to keep oil and shine at bay, this setting spray was made for oily/combo-skinned folks in mind.

Final thoughts.
