Looking for some sweet escapism? Sullivan's Crossing on Stan is back and stars Chad Michael Murray.

There's nothing quite as important to me as being swaddled up in a blanket with a cup of tea and a comforting small-town show. Throw a dose of autumnal magic on top of that dream scenario, and I am living the best life a girl could ever hope to enjoy.

As an avid fan of Gilmore Girls, Dawson's Creek, Hart of Dixie and Virgin River – and many, many more – I take this business of cosy charm very seriously.

So, when I heard that the very same Luke Danes of Gilmore Girls fame – also known as Scott Patterson – was starring in a new small town show, I knew I was absolutely going to be tuning in.

Just try and stop me!

Stan brought us a whole new world of escapism when Sullivan's Crossing premiered in 2023. And I devoured the whole thing.

The series follows Maggie Sullivan (Morgan Kohan), a respected neurosurgeon whose life takes an unexpected turn when a professional scandal tarnishes her reputation at a prestigious Boston hospital.

She returns to her childhood hometown of Sullivan's Crossing in the picturesque Nova Scotia region, where she reconnects with her estranged father, Harry 'Sully' Sullivan (played by Scott Patterson). Their strained relationship becomes a central emotional thread as Maggie confronts unresolved family issues while rebuilding her life.

As she tries to heal from her past, she's also met with the ultimate small-town situation: a cute boy. Chad Michael Murray (yes, of One Tree Hill fame) stars as Cal Jones – a brooding and enigmatic handyman with a mysterious past, who develops an undeniable chemistry with Maggie.

At the heart of the show is the striking scenery, which viewers see plenty of as the central location is 'Sullivan's Crossing' – the campground and inn owned by Maggie's father. The picturesque setting serves as more than just a backdrop – it's a character in itself.

The series beautifully balances personal growth with community connections, making it perfect for fans of heartwarming dramas like Virgin River — no surprise, as both shows are based on bestselling novel series by author Robyn Carr.

If you're yet to tune in to Sullivan's Crossing, the good news is that the first two seasons are simply waiting for you to watch on Stan. And if you have been counting down to the new season, even greater news: the show is back and better than ever.

In season three, we're picking things back up in the aftermath of a devastating fire that ravaged Rob's diner and left us in suspense as fireman Sully rushed into the building… but did not emerge.

We were left on several cliffhangers, actually, with Maggie making the choice to move back to Sullivan's Crossing and raise her baby alone. We were also left wondering what would happen between Maggie and Cal, to finally see if there was some magic to be uncovered in their romance.

Without giving anything away, this season's first episode delivers on those cliffhangers with a heartbreaking twist that sets us up for an emotionally complex season.

Maggie is dealing with her own personal grief in the wake of a tragic loss, with the ripple effects spreading through her relationships with Cal, Sully, and her friends.

The storyline opens up an emotional thread for Maggie through the season, bringing heart, healing and open conversation about loss to the forefront of this series.

By her side is Cal, who remains as charming and lovable as ever. His own past continues to haunt the narrative this season, but with the help of Maggie, he continues to confront some of his demons.

Of course, the thing we know to expect from a small-town drama is alive and well: and that's swoon-worthy romance. Watching these two lovebirds finally navigate their romance is simply delightful.

Elsewhere, our curmudgeonly Sully is in for a thrilling adventure of his own as the charming romance author Helen Culver, played by Kate Vernon, arrives in town for a stay at the inn. And it seems like she's travelled to town exclusively to push his buttons and – we hope – strike up a loving romance that fills his days with sunshine.

Which is good, because Edna (Andrea Menard) and Frank (Tom Jackson) are pushing his buttons in entirely different ways as they help run the Crossing and update it for the modern world.

As Rob (Reid Price) faces the worst — his insurance company playing hardball over his burnt-down diner — and Sydney (Lindura) and Rafe (Dakota Taylor) face relationship woes, this season continues to lean into the daily dramas of everyday life and the human struggle for connection.

But through it all, Sullivan's Crossing is an uplifting, heartwarming and unmissbale series that always keeps us coming back for more.

Season 3 of Sullivan's Crossing is now streaming on Stan, with new episodes dropping weekly.
