The 'innocent' Stranger Things kiss with an unsettling behind-the-scenes story.

Warning: This post contains mild spoilers for Stranger Things season two. 

So this is a weird one.

If you’ve already binged your way through Stranger Things season two, you would have noticed a cute little kiss between Max (Sadie Sink) and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) in the final episode.

The two tweens share a kiss on the dance floor at Hawkins Middle School Snow Ball, after they’ve killed all the demodogs, saved Will, been reunited with Eleven etc.

However, that simple kiss might not be as sweet as it initially seemed.

In the after show Beyond Stranger Things Season 2, Sink shared the rather awkward story of how the kiss came about.

“It was not written in the script. The kiss was not written in the script,” she said. “I get there the first day of filming the Snow Ball, me and Noah [Schnapp] are walking in, seeing the decorations and stuff. One of you – I think it was you, Ross – was like, ‘Oh Sadie, you ready for the kiss?’ I’m like, ‘What? Nope! That’s not in the script. That’s not happening.’ And so the whole day I was stressed out.”

“You reacted so strongly to this. I was just joking,” replied Ross Duffer. “And you were so freaked out I was like oh, well, I gotta make you do it now. That’s what happened. That’s why it’s your fault.”

While their exchange was very light-hearted, some folks on Twitter are not impressed that the kiss was included just because it made Sink so uncomfortable. And, honestly, it feels a bit off that a couple of grown men found making a teenage girl feel so uncomfortable so funny.

It wasn't in the script but one of the Duffers jokingly said "are you ready for the KISS?" on set. She says she was "stressed out" about it.

The director, an adult man, saw that a teen girl was uncomfortable with a situation, which made him MORE EAGER to put her in the situation.

A director's job is to get the best performances from their actors AND make sure they feel safe and comfortable.

At this point neither Sadie Sink or the Duffer brothers have responded to tweets, but this revelation definitely makes you look at the scene a little differently.
