Watching You is an erotic thriller filled with nail-biting suspense.

If you're looking for your next binge-watch, Stan's Watching You might just be it.

This erotic psychological thriller combines steamy drama with nail-biting suspense, and morally complex characters that will have you questioning everything.

Starring Aisha Dee, Josh Helman, Chai Hansen, Laura Gordon and Luke Cook, the show centres on paramedic Lina, whose life takes a dramatic turn after one impulsive decision.

Despite being happily engaged, a chance encounter with a stranger named Dan awakens something within her, leading to a passionate one-night stand that becomes the catalyst for everything that follows. But this isn't just about infidelity — it's about the dangerous game that unfolds when Lina discovers her intimate moment was captured on camera, thrusting her into a deadly web of blackmail and paranoia.

What starts as a moment of desire quickly spirals into a high-stakes thriller where Lina must unmask the voyeur who's turned her private moment into a weapon against her. Each episode ratchets up the tension, delivering twist after twist that will leave you genuinely anxious — but in that addictive way that keeps you coming back for more.

Recently, Mamamia sat down with the show's stars to talk about Watching You and how it felt to be part of a show with such a unique premise and the groundbreaking territory it is marking out.

"It just felt different. It felt like something I hadn't done before. It also felt quite different for Australian audiences because we don't really get content like this often," Aisha Dee, the show's lead, told Mamamia

"I've never seen an Australian show like this before," Luke Cook, who plays Axel in the show, echoed. "A psychological, erotic thriller. I've never seen a real Aussie take on that."

And they're not wrong. Watching You represents something genuinely unique in the Australian television landscape. While we've seen plenty of crime dramas and relationship stories, this particular blend of erotic thriller and psychological suspense feels fresh and distinctly Australian. It's the kind of bold, boundary-pushing content that proves local productions can compete with international offerings in terms of both quality and audacity.

One of Watching You's greatest strengths lies in its complex, flawed characters. Lina herself makes questionable choices throughout the series, yet you find yourself empathising with her predicament. She's not your typical perfect protagonist — she's grounded in reality, making decisions that feel authentically human rather than heroically noble.

"I was aware of the fact that, when it comes to a lot of content out there, we need all of the characters to be morally virtuous. And that's even more true when it comes to a black woman. We really want black women to play therapists and people that we see as morally correct," Aisha said.

"But the fact is, nobody is morally correct and the idea of a victim or a villain or needing to paint someone as one of those things is really dated. The fact that Lina exists in a space that is not so easy to define, I found that interesting and exciting to explore. To have to develop empathy for this person that maybe I don't always agree with, but wanting to find out why."

The supporting characters are equally compelling in their moral ambiguity. Take Dan, whose pursuit of connection and love drives his actions, revealing layers of vulnerability beneath his behaviour. These aren't characters you can easily categorise as good or bad — they exist in that fascinating grey area where real people live, making choices that can be simultaneously understandable and problematic.

"I'm really personally fascinated in the psychology of characters who do exist in that morally grey zone. What drew me to Dan was that he's not just one thing," Josh Helman, the actor who plays Dan, explained of the show's complex characterisation.

"It's not only Dan. So many of the characters exist in that moral gray area and I think that makes for really compelling stories. These are all things that we all feel, and it's a question of how much we let certain sides of us out, and we're constantly negotiating that on a daily basis."

Watching You also doesn't shy away from steamy scenes — I mean, this show is sexy! But sexuality also serves a deeper narrative purpose. The show explores how different characters use sex – sometimes for genuine connection, other times as a substitute for emotional intimacy. It's a raw examination of how people can use each other sexually, revealing character motivations and psychological depths that go far beyond surface-level attraction.

"There seem to be elements of control. There was a mutual thing happening where Lina is using this person, and they're also using her. All of these dynamics seemed to be pointing towards the same thing which is an exploration of sex and people as addictive substances," Aisha explained.

Perhaps the most chilling aspect of Watching You is its exploration of surveillance and privacy. The premise — being secretly filmed during an intimate moment — might be my greatest nightmare realised and taps into a very real, very modern fear.

In our digital age, where cameras are everywhere and privacy feels increasingly elusive, the show raises uncomfortable questions about how much of our lives is actually captured and potentially available for public consumption.

This isn't just paranoid fiction… it's a nightmare scenario that could realistically happen to anyone. And that's what makes it so compelling.

"I think we're all experiencing elements of what these characters are experiencing in the show, in terms of being surveilled and being watched," Aisha said.

"I also think that, inherently, as a woman, even if there's not a camera on you, we are constantly being perceived, right? And people are constantly making observations on who they believe us to be based on something that might just be like a blip, it might just be a singular moment."

Josh echoed this sentiment, highlighting how normalised surveillance has become in our daily lives.

"It's very strange to be living in a world where we're all just used to being recorded. We record ourselves, we record other people. We know as a society that if you or I walk down the street, there's probably 50 cameras on any given day that are going to see us and that are going to record us," he added.

And that constant surveillance creates the perfect backdrop for a thriller that feels uncomfortably close to reality.

If you're looking for a show that will challenge you, thrill you, and keep you guessing until the very last moment, Watching You needs to be on your watch-list immediately.
