Springtime gear your kids will actually get excited about.

I love springtime.

There’s something new and bright and fresh about the turn of the season looking forward to summer. I fantasise about family picnics and outings to the zoo. These fantasies are almost never fulfilled. Mostly we drink wine on the in-laws’ deck. To be clear, it’s the grown-ups drinking wine. The kids play in the yard with the dog.

I also fantasise about clearing out the kids’ wardrobes and getting rid of the winter clothes that no longer fit. I get about as far as opening the wardrobe doors… to put away the new pieces I bought for spring and summer. Er…

Anyway. I hope you’re currently sitting somewhere also dreaming of warmer weather with a glass of wine in your hand. Here are my picks for the kids’ new spring wardrobes for you while you’re there.

1. Marquise body suits.

I still have the Marquise body suits I bought for my eldest when he was a baby. I just can’t bear to let them go. These new prints are super cute. The 100 per cent pure cotton makes them perfect for baby. They are great on their own if the weather is warm enough, and wonderful for layering on those cooler days

2. Sprout dresses.

These dresses are a summer staple. The nautical colour scheme is so sweet my teeth hurt. The two pack comes in at just under $30, making these a total bargain. I’ll take four. Thank you.

3. Origami tutu dresses.

The only thing that makes my heart sing more than a tutu is a little girl in a tutu. I’m stockpiling these for my daughter for when she’s big enough. I’ll team them with Cons for playtime at the park, or a pair of sparkly Mary Janes for a party.

They're also available for bubs here.

4. Brooklyn Industries suiting.

It can be really hard to find special occasion clothing for little boys that suits an event without looking like Little Lord Fauntleroy. I love this range from Brooklyn Industries because it does just that. The separates are smart but still playful, because even at a special occasion kids should look like kids, not like miniature orchestra conductors.

5. SEAFOLLY sunvest set.

SEAFOLLY is such a great Australian brand and their kids range is delightful. The Jewel Cove Sunvest Set is inspired by the psychedelic ‘60s with a magical mix of pattern and radiating jewels. It has fantastic detailing, ruching tie and contrast sleeves and banding. I love the boyleg bottoms.

These t-shirts and shorts are as practical and versatile as they are on trend.

8. New Balance sneakers.

All kids need a good pair of sports shoes and these are stylish as well as supportive of kids’ feet. Myer has an online booking tool to book in for a professional fitting, so you don’t have to second guess yourself.
