We were promised a Spice Girls reunion, but there's been another hitch.

I'll tell you what we want… what we really, really want? A Spice Girls reunion.

Posh, Baby, Ginger, Scary and Sporty were icons of the '90s. Purveyors of girl power. The ultimate soundtrack to pre-teen discos.

In their hit song 'Wannabe', Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Geri Horner (formerly Halliwell), Mel B and Melanie C promised that "friendship never ends".

And so, the latest rumours are hard to swallow.

Reports have emerged that Geri (AKA Ginger Spice) has personally pumped the brakes on a reunion project that seemed to be very much in the works.

According to The Sun, the beloved girl group were approached about a TV drama series following their rise to stardom.

"It would have seen five actresses taking on the roles of Posh, Ginger, Scary, Sporty and Baby," a source told the publication.

"The venture would have landed them all pay deals of around £1million (nearly $2million AUD) for essentially not lifting a finger."

Talks reportedly took place with the minds behind Netflix's The Crown, and everything was looking positive. Until, insiders say, Geri turned it down amid rumours that she and her husband Christian Horner had been approached for a personal documentary instead.

Horner denied this, telling the PA news agency

"Netflix do enough, and you see enough of the behind-the-scenes on that. So where that report has come from, I have absolutely no idea."

Regardless of the reason, Geri still reportedly objected to the proposed Spice Girls series.

"The plans have basically been thrown out. They wanted to have the agreement of all of the band and without Geri it's hard to make it happen," a source told The Sun.

The report follows rumours of a long-running feud between Geri and Mel B (Scary Spice) after Mel appeared on Piers Morgan's Life Stories in 2019.

During the interview, Mel B claimed that she and Geri had a sexual interaction back in the Spice Girls' heyday.

"She is going to hate me for this because she is all posh with her country house and her husband, but it's the past," Mel told Piers.

"It was just that once. And hopefully when Geri gets asked that, which hopefully she will after this, she won't deny it. Because it was just a fun thing.

"I have said it now. All done. She is going to kill me."

Geri responded to her former bandmate's claims through a representative.

"It has been very disappointing to read about all these rumours again, especially on Mother's Day of all days," read a statement given to E! News.

"[Geri] would like you to know that what has been reported recently is simply not true and has been very hurtful to her family.

"Moving forward, Geri can't wait to see the girls and all the fans on the tour, have an amazing time with everyone, and make some new memories."

Ahh yes — the tour.

Seven years after their appearance at the 2012 London Olympics, the Spice Girls embarked on a small UK tour without Victoria Beckham, who was busy with her fashion ventures.

Most recently, in April this year, the girls reunited for Victoria's 50th birthday where they performed their hit song 'Stop'.

Fans were delighted, and eager to know if more performances were in the works.

At first, it seemed our dreams would come true. While appearing on the British chat show Loose Women earlier this year, Mel B revealed that she and the other girls were "definitely doing something".

"I'm probably going to get told off [for revealing that], but I've said it. There you go. I'm in trouble now," she said.

But not too long later, the tour was axed — also reportedly due to Geri.

"Geri has had enough to deal with after all the drama with her husband's relationship with his assistant — it has been a tough enough time — and she's just lost patience with Mel and her little digs and jibes," a source told MailOnline.

At the time, Geri's Red Bull Racing husband Horner was accused of sending inappropriate messages to a female colleague, and later of "inappropriate and coercive" behaviour.

The matter was investigated, and his name was eventually cleared in August 2024.

Following the decision, Horner told SkySports: "Obviously, it's been a hugely thorough process and, of course, I was relieved with the appeal concluding and dismissing the claim."

As for the comment about Mel B's "digs and jibes", fans have speculated that this is in reference to Scary Spice's repeated jokes about Geri's age.

While appearing on Olivia Attwood's So Wrong It's Right podcast, Mel suggested that "no one knows how old Geri is".

"No one's seen her passport. I mean, I know we've travelled the world, but I still don't know how old she is," she said.

This was followed by an Instagram post in which Mel jokingly wished Geri a "Happy 75th Birthday".

So, are Geri and Mel B really feuding? Some say that where there is smoke there is fire. Me? I'm choosing to believe that friendship really does last forever — mainly because a reunion tour would really spice up my life.
