Meet the woman who ditched her new husband halfway through her trip and went on a 'solo honeymoon'.

Stephanie Allison was married for just one month, when she decided to part ways with her husband and continue travelling on her own.

To be clear, the two are still happily married. But after being together for more than 13 years, Stephanie decided she needed a little time to herself.

"All up I'm going to be travelling solo for about two month. At the end of September I got married to my wonderful husband, and we spent about a month travelling together...then I've gone off on my own for a 'solo honeymoon'," she revealed in a YouTube video.

Stephanie explained that after spending so much of her life with one person, she needed time to "get to know" herself.

"We've been together for 13 years and we've never really spent a significant time apart...I've never really travelled by myself and I really wanted to get to know myself while I am alone," she said.

"And after 13 years, we both need a bit of a holiday from each other as well!"

Stephanie married her husband, Doug Allison, in Croatia, and has since explored Germany, Switzerland, Iceland, France, Austria and Belgium on her own.

She even met a fellow traveller, Lucy from India, who was doing the exact same thing.

"There's an expectation that once you get married, you always have to do things together...but once you get married you don't stop being your own individual person," Stephanie explained to Lucy in the video.

"You still have your own goals, your own dreams, your own aspirations and you need to keep pursuing them because that makes you happy too.

"You think about things without your partner’s influence, discover your own self, and then you come together with new ideas."

So what does her new husband thing of her new adventures on her own?

"I think he is a little envious about some of the things I have experienced," Stephanie told news.com.au.

"But overall he is very proud of me for conquering my fears and getting out of my comfort zone.
We have all our lives to travel and do things together but this has been a good reminder that just because we are married and are a couple...we are not joined at the hip."
