Purchasing an engagement ring is an exciting time in a couple’s life. It’s even more exciting when the couple says “I do” just 13 days after first clapping eyes on each other.
Single mum Rachel Pedersen met her future husband Poul in 2013, while he was working as a window washer. After just a week, the pair said they were head over heels, and less than a week after that, they were married.
Now the mum-of-two from Eden Prairie, Minnesota has written an emotional post for Facebook sharing a photo of her engagement ring, which has a 1/4 carat diamond center.
She says she was impelled to write because friends and family often ask her when she is going to have it “upgraded”.
In her Facebook post, Rachel explains she has no desire to “upgrade”.
“My ring symbolizes a whirlwind, storybook, ‘make you sick’ love story,” Rachel gushes. “It reminds me of how my husband and I met and fell… in love… one night at a Perkin’s diner.”
Rachel explains that friends and family have suggested she swaps her ring for a bigger, flashier version, as the couple are now doing better financially than they were when they first met.
“Wait a minute…” she writes. “Since when did the size of someone’s ring become an indication of success?!”
It is evident from Rachel’s post that the pair knew right away they were meant for each other. “We couldn’t stop dreaming of our future,” she writes. “So excited to have a baby, buy a house, and fall asleep together every night.
