UPDATE: An autopsy report has revealed what caused the death of American sisters who were found in their luxury hotel room in Seychelles, off the coast of east Africa.
Annie Korkki, 37, her sister Robin Korkki, 42, died from excess fluid in their lungs, the New York Times has reported.
The report was conducted last Wednesday and released by the office of the Seychelles Minister of Travel and Culture.
It shows Annie and Robin Marie died from acute pulmonary edema (or having fluid in the lungs), with cerebral edema (or fluid in the brain) also cited in Annie’s death.
Mamamia previously reported:
The sisters were found unresponsive in their hotel beds by staff at the Maia Luxury Resort and Spa on September 22 — just two days before they were scheduled to fly home.
The women, experienced travellers originally from Eden Prairie in Minnesota, had been drinking alcohol the day before according to staff, Seychelles Nation has reported.
Detectives have yet to confirm what led to their death.
“What the police can say about the investigation so far is that the two sisters were consuming alcohol throughout the day,” police spokesperson Jean Toussaint said.
“And the last time they were seen drinking alcohol was at around quarter to seven and they were helped to their bedroom by hotel personnel at around 8.15 pm (22 September).”
