It’s making people laugh and cry across the world and it’s all for a wonderful cause.
The video shows British mums and their children singing in cars using the form of sign language called Makaton.
The clip’s titled 50 Mums, 50 Kids, 1 Extra Chromosome because the children singing and dancing and smiling and playing in the passenger’s seat all have Down Syndrome.
The (extra) tear jerker: it’s edited to the tune of Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years.
The idea was one of the mothers’ featured in the clip, who’s a part of the Facebook group Designer Genes for the parents of children with Down Syndrome.
According to Daily Mail, she thought of the concept after watching a Singing Hands carpool karaoke video signed with Makaton.
She thought it would be “amazing” to replicate… and it is. The wide smiles and adoring interactions between the children and their mums, and sometimes other siblings, make your heart tingle.
Is ATypical Netflix’s most important show this year? Post continues below.
The video’s release is in coordination with World Down Syndrome Day on March 21, with the hashtag #wouldntchangeathing.
And the reaction to the clip, which has been viewed almost 400,000 times, has been inspiring.
Singer Christina Perri tweeted: “THIS IS THE BEST! I’m so honoured they chose my song, my heart is so full.”
And late night television host James Corden, who is known for his segment ‘Carpool Karaoke’, called it the “most beautiful Carpool Karaoke ever”, adding that it made him cry.
