I never expected to admit that sleeping in a 60-year-old grain silo has been the most relaxing part of my year so far. But after burning out at the end of last year, I am actively seeking unique staycations to unwind, find balance and escape the hustle and bustle of city life more regularly.
Earlier this year, I found a little hidden gem that had just popped up in rural Junee, NSW. The Silos Accommodation has taken unique tiny home stays to a whole new level. Junee locals Nick and Amber have transformed a 60-year-old grain silo into a two-story luxury getaway. With a hot tub, outdoor fire pit and breakfast and dinner included, they have merged traditional country living with modern comfort.

When my girlfriend and I arrived for our overnight stay, we were greeted with a bottle of red wine on the kitchen bench, and a basket and fridge full of locally sourced prepared meals and snacks.
Thank goodness too, because we hadn't brought any food or drinks with us — fortunately the Silos team took care of every single detail so we didn't have to lift a finger.
With nothing to do or worry about, we slipped right into holiday mode, cracked the bottle of wine and jumped into the outdoor hot tub. As we sat there talking and listening to music, we admired the stillness of the countryside. No cars beeping, people shouting, construction roaring; it was just us (and some friendly cows in the distance).
