The case of missing Californian jogger Sherri Papini has both authorities and the public desperately searching for clues as to what exactly happened to the mother-of-two after she was allegedly kidnapped one month ago.
Papini, 34, was thought to have disappeared while out for a jog on November 2 and was not seen again for 22 days when she was found badly beaten on the side of a rural road.
Another bizarre twist in the case, however, has police concerned one of their key pieces of evidence may have been planted.
Just days after the so called "super mom" vanished her iPhone and headphones were found on the Mountain Goat jogging trail, just a few kilometres from the Papini's home in Redding, California.
Yesterday's report: Police share even more disturbing facts about Sherri Papini after her husband "blindsided" them.
They were found by Sherri's husband, Keith Papini, using the “Find my iPhone” app with several of her long blonde hair were tangled in the cords.
Shasta County Police Sheriff Tom Bosenko today confirmed a rumour that the smartphone may have been a 'red herring' that was "neatly placed" in the woods - rather than lost in a struggle - to throw them off.
"It appeared they had been set in some grass with the screen facing up, and then the earbuds to the phone were loosely coiled and appeared to be placed on the screen," he told America's Today program.
