New sex robots with warm 'genitals' are hitting the market very, very soon.

Ah, technology. The beautiful product of human ingenuity that is the answer for all of our inconveniences being applied to science, medicine, transport, education, entertainment and even sex.

Fans of sex and robotics will be (maybe?) pleased to know that a new line of high tech sex robots are predicted to hit the market next year, with new technology making them more realistic than ever.

Created by Californian-based company, Abyss Creations, the life-like robots will be human like in appearance and size, similar to their already popular RealDolls model, a line of $5000+ realistic dolls the company already produces.

However these new dolls will come with noticeable high tech advancements such as heating elements over the entire body, the ability to talk back to their owner in a 'sexy' voice and allowing intercourse according to its owner's preferences. They're expected to go on sale next year.

International robotics expert, David Levy, described the advancements in his article in the DailyMail as, "synthetic skin embedded with electronic sensors will enable the robots to react with (artificial) pleasure as they are caressed by their owner-lovers, for example. And as Artificial Intelligence researchers improve the quality of computer-generated conversation, robots will develop the skills needed for seduction and the whispering of sweet nothings during love-making. "

This comes 10 years after his initial prediction that in the not-so-distant future we will be falling in love with robots and by 2050 will be marrying them, about which he stated, "I've seen nothing since then to change my prediction."

But what are the implications of this new technology as it enters the realm of human intimacy? Levy believes the advantages could be seen in sexual therapy and companionship for those who have none.

"I believe sex robots will be a great boon to society and will, for example, encourage greater frankness in sexual matters. Robots could certainly act as sex therapists. People experiencing psycho-sexual problems will no longer need the expensive service of humans," Levy said.

"Then there are the downright lonely. Sex robots will eradicate a huge void in the lives of lonely, unloved people, creating emotional and sexual satisfaction for them in place of the loneliness and sexual frustration which blights their lives.

Founder of Abyss Creations, Matt McMullen, is excited by the idea of customers creating a bond with his product.

"I want to have people actually develop an emotional attachment to not only the robot but the actual character behind it. To develop some kind of love for this being," McMullen said.

But not everyone is thrilled by the possibility of relationships with robots.

Dr Kathleen Richardson, a senior researcher at the De Montfort University and founder of the Campaign Against Sex Robots, is wary of the impact it may have for human-to-human relationships.

"One of the first impacts of something like sex robots would be to increase human isolation because once you try to tell people that they don't need other human beings any more, one of the consequences of that is more isolation," she told Sky News.

Another concern is the concentration of female sex-bots marketed to men in the market and the social implications it may have for reinforcing dangerous old stereotypes and condoning objectification of women.

Columnist, Leah Reich, voiced her concerns in her article 'Sexbot Slaves' warning us that "if women are the model on which most sex-bots are based, we run the risk of recreating essentialised gender roles, especially around sex."

No matter what side of the debate you are on, robotic technology is advancing at a unprecedented rate and the likelihood of these kind of artificial relationships seems inevitable.

What we can start discussing now is how ethically we will use this technology to advance our society for the better and not throw it into a state of emotional isolation.
