The controversial Sex and the City scene that was deemed too raunchy to air.

There wasn’t much that was actually off-limits in the iconic TV series Sex and the City.

You name it, and they pretty much went there.

It’s what made the show so real, relatable and beloved by so many women (and men).

But according to an article by Vanity Fair to commemorate the show’s 20 year anniversary, there were a couple of scenes that were so raunchy and controversial, they didn’t even make the cut.

The show’s creator, Darren Star, said the first scene cut came during the season one episode, The Monogamists, in which Charlotte dates a guy who is all about oral sex.

"He basically was always pushing her head down to give him oral sex. And he had this golden retriever who was always around," explained Star to Vanity Fair. 

"In the final scene, she basically let him have it about being offended by his insistence on just wanting a blow job. She accused him of only liking her for that and kind of stormed out. And then she walked back in and saw that his golden retriever was going down on him."

One of the show's writers, Amy B. Harris, said she's kind of mortified they even went there with the gross-out scene.

"It’s sort of horrifying that we shot that. We shot him putting peanut butter on his penis, and Charlotte walks back in like, 'Oh, I’m being unreasonable,' and then she sees that," she added.

"I can’t believe we even thought about doing it."

The other scene they had to pull back on was in the season three episode, Attack of the Five-Foot-Ten Woman.

In the episode, Miranda's cleaning lady, Magda, accidentally stumbles across her "goodie drawer", and decides to replace her vibrator with a statue of the Virgin Mary.

After Miranda confronts Magda, she later comes home to find a pile of condoms fanned out on her bedside table.

But according to the series' show-runner, Michael Patrick King, that wasn't the only thing originally positioned on Miranda's bedside table.

"That was an adjusted shot, because originally she had positioned the Blessed Mary to be looking over the condoms," he said.

"People were like, 'That’s too far!' So we took Mary out."

We didn't think it was possible, but apparently some things were just too much, even for Sex and the City.
