Despite having a world of options at our fingertips, picking a new TV show to watch is harder than ever. Call it decision fatigue or choice overload.

Thankfully, it's my job to watch TV — which means I've got plenty of time to weed out the duds and find the very best offerings for your nightly watch. And right now, 7plus, has the goods.

All the best TV shows to watch on 7plus this month.

The Rookie, Season 7

The Rookie — with Season 7 streaming only on 7plus — is a fever dream of a cop show, combining charismatic talents with high-stakes crime and some of the most unhinged plots you'll ever see in a police procedural drama. And I love every second of it.

Nathan Fillion (Desperate Housewives, Castle) leads the show as John Nolan, a 40-year-old, freshly divorced man who — months after helping police in his own hometown robbery — moves to LA to become "the oldest rookie" at the LAPD. But that's in season one.

Seven seasons in, as you can imagine, the story has evolved beyond John Nolan and his efforts to be a strong member of the police force. Co-stars including Eric Winter, Alyssa Diaz, Titus Makin Jr. and Jenna Dewan have rounded out the series to make it just as juicy as all your favourite classic workplace dramas (think: Grey's Anatomy in a police precinct).

The new season picks up in the aftermath of a shooting that left John with gunshot wounds (and some serious qualms about his age). While he returns to work, we also see the continuation of some love stories (I won't spoil which ones!) and the introduction of fresh talent into the mix.

Whether you want to start from the beginning or drop in to see what all the fuss is about in the newer eps, this is an entertaining and easy watch for your weeknights.

Grosse Pointe Garden Society

Murder! Comedy! A local gardening club brimming with secrets! This is one to watch.

The series stars a host of talented actors, including Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Aja Naomi King (How to Get Away with Murder), Ben Rappaport (Younger) and AnnaSophia Robb (Bridge to Terabithia) to name a few.

It follows four people in the local gardening club of a wealthy, Stepford-esque suburb where everything appears to be picture-perfect. Alice (Robb) is a teacher and aspiring writer, Catherine (King) is a real estate agent, Brett (Rappaport) is a divorced father of two and Birdie (Fumero) is a socialite and the newest member of the society.

But things take a murderous turn one night, and the foursome come together to bury a body in their own garden on the evening of their club's annual gala. Linked by their secret, the group must stick together while their personal lives become increasingly complicated (and stressful). Will someone snap and reveal the truth behind what happened in this idyllic town? Time will tell.

It's a whodunnit mystery with timeline flashes between the present and the future, where the murder is committed. With changing episodic narrators and plant puns aplenty, this cosy murder mystery has the quirks of old-school shows like Desperate Housewives.

A sure standout is King, who I'm thrilled to see back on my screen in a slightly less intense murderous series, following her epic stint on How to Get Away with Murder.

Penny Dreadful

Deliciously spooky and well-cast, Penny Dreadful is a thrilling psychological gothic horror that stars Eva Green, Josh Hartnett, Billie Piper and more.

Set in Victorian London in the 1890s, the series weaves together characters from classic literature, including Dorian Gray, Dr Henry Jekyll, Dr Victor Frankenstein and his monster, and a number of characters from Bram Stoker's Dracula.

The first season begins with Ethan Chandler (Hartnett), an American gunman hired by former explorer Malcolm Murray (Timothy Dalton) and Catholic clairvoyant Vanessa Ives (Green) to help rescue Murray's daughter from a mysterious creature. From witches to vampires, this three-season series sees the leading characters haunted by all manner of monsters across London (and later, the world).

At times, the series can be gruesome and gory and downright perfect horror — at other times, it's simply the uneasy suspense that will have you hiding your face beneath your pillows. All in all, Penny Dreadful is a thrilling watch that deserved better from the critics at the time it was released (2015).

Now, it's earned cult-like status amongst its loyal fans, and it's well worth checking out if you're into the world of gothic horror.

The Affair

Now, The Affair — that is some premium television. In its time, the series picked up three Golden Globe Awards (and plenty of nominations across awards season) as it aired from 2014 to 2019.

The series charts the extramarital relationship between Noah Solloway (Dominic West) and Alison Bailey (Ruth Wilson) after they casually meet at the diner where Alison works in Montauk. Noah is "happily married" to Helen (Maura Tierney), with whom he shares four children. Alison is married to Cole (Joshua Jackson), and they're steadily piecing their family unit back together after the death of their four-year-old son.

Exploring the affair from both Noah and Alison's perspectives — including their own personal memory bias that drastically changes the viewpoint on what truly happened — we, the viewers, get a glimpse of the realities of such a ruinous romance.

While the first season detailed the affair, the following seasons and episodes carried on the story through the fallout and destruction that led to unexpected and deadly consequences. Want something juicy to watch? This is your pick!

Animal Kingdom

If you've seen the Australian film of the same name, you'll be familiar with this story.

Based on the movie, this four-season TV show follows teen Joshua "J" Cody (Finn Cole), who moves in with his estranged family after his mother's death from a heroin overdose. Quickly pulled into their criminal world by his uncles, he becomes embroiled in their activities, including heists and other highly illegal actions.

The show explores the complex and often abusive relationships within the Cody family, in particular the dynamics of family matriarch Janine "Smurf" Cody (Ellen Barkin) and her "borderline-incestuous love" for her sons.

The series ran for six seasons, detailing the criminal underworld and keeping viewers enthralled with impressive performances by Shawn Hatosy (now starring on The Pitt), Scott Speedman (Felicity) and, in particular, Barkin as the standout.
