The biggest fight on Selling Sunset is so much worse than you think.

When it comes to Selling Sunset, on-screen fights and feuds are to be expected. That's the whole point.

It's all infighting, crazy outfits, and a bit of real estate every now and then. But this season, there seemed to be more off-screen drama than there was on.

Don't get me started on the Emma and Chrishell friendship breakdown, which happened almost exclusively off-screen. All we got to see were a few awkward meetings and confrontations — but by the end of the season, Emma and Chrishell had seemingly patched things up. Spoiler: they're not friends anymore.

But one of the biggest feuds to emerge from season 9 of Selling Sunset is undoubtedly between Chelsea and Mary. Tensions have been brewing for years now between the two co-stars, but it all came to a head in the finale episode of this latest season. And what happened off-screen is far more intense.

The drama began during a dinner organised by Jason and Brett, to welcome new agent Sandra to the team and to console Mary and Romain following their house being burgled.

As the dinner went on, Mary confronted Chelsea about sending her flowers after the burglary. She questioned whether the gesture was genuine since the cameras were rolling at the time.

And the conversation quickly escalated into a heated back-and-forth argument, with Mary expressing her doubts about Chelsea's motives and Chelsea defending herself.

"You're here saying I did it for the cameras. What the f**k do you think I need camera time for? B**ch they're going to get my face regardless, trust me," Chelsea said.

The tension became so intense that Mary eventually stormed out of the dinner. Jason then attempted to have the cameras turned off, but Chelsea wasn't having it.

"You don't get to pick when the cameras go off, bro. You didn't care when we were getting your content," Chelsea said.

This was by far the juiciest scene of the entire season and what we were begging for the entire time. But since the episode aired, the conversation has taken a very drastic dive and, it turns out, the short on-screen fight is so much worse than we thought.

Our first sign was when Netflix didn't organise an official after-party for the season 9 launch. Instead, Bre Tiesi decided to host her own celebration. However, eagle-eyed fans quickly noticed some glaring omissions from the guest list.

The absence of Chrishell and Chelsea from the party didn't go unnoticed.

But the drama didn't end there. Following the new season, Mary did an interview with US Weekly and explained there was more to the party saga.

"At Bre [Tiesi]'s party, I wasn't just emotional. There were some things from after the dinner that happened that I didn't want to put myself in a situation where I'm in danger," Mary said.

"I'm not upset because I saw her name or that she was going to be there. There were some issues where I just don't want any part of this. I'm a grown woman and I'm a professional. I don't have this in my life and I'm not going to. I got upset and cried because of that. It was an actual issue. There were definitely things that were said afterwards that I don't agree with and I won't be around."

Mary's reaction on the show, coupled with her statements after, have led to many viewers calling out her comments as microaggressions against a Black woman and blowing the situation completely out of proportion.

Others have questioned her disproportionate reaction to Chelsea, given she also received two Rolexes from Jason while they were on camera.

The underlying message has proven to be much more problematic than it initially seemed, with the fight itself revealing deeper issues beyond just reality TV drama.

Even Chrishell has weighed in on the drama, taking to her Instagram story to call out Mary's interview and condemn what she saw as problematic rhetoric.

"I was there for all the on-camera and off-camera moments. You were never in danger girl," she wrote. "Alluding that you ever were regarding Chelsea is really dangerous rhetoric. Do BETTER."

She later revealed in an Instagram comment that the cast was supposed to film an extra scene together in the finale, but it was cancelled because of Mary.

"We were meant to have this conversation at the finale, where I talked about this to Mary but it was cancelled bc she felt in danger…" Chrishell wrote.

"The finale with all of us present was cancelled bc she didn't feel safe being in the room with Chelsea… let me shut up before I get in trouble," she shared in another comment.

The fallout from this feud has started a much bigger conversation. What started as on-screen tension has evolved into serious discussions about microaggressions and harmful rhetoric when it comes to women of colour.

Whether this will lead to meaningful change or just more drama remains to be seen, but one thing's certain — the real estate might be the least interesting thing about this show right now.
