Seal just called out Oprah for being 'part of the Weinstein problem'.

Oprah’s speech at the 2018 Golden Globes was truly brilliant.

“So I want all the girls watching here, now, to know that a new day is on the horizon! And when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women… and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say ‘me too’ again,” she said to a standing ovation as she accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award.

But while the rest of us were screaming ‘Oprah 2020’, Seal had something far less complimentary to say.

Attacking the veteran talk show host and philanthropist for being ‘part of the problem for decades’, the 54-year-old shared an accusatory meme to Instagram on Wednesday.

“Oh I forgot, that’s right…..you’d heard the rumours but you had no idea he was actually serially assaulting young stary-eyed actresses who in turn had no idea what they were getting into. My bad. #SanctimoniousHollywood.”

The meme featured two images of Oprah embracing and socialising with disgraced film producer, Harvey Weinstein, dating back to 2014, edited together with the words:

When you’ve been part of the problem for decades but suddenly they all think you are the solution.

Commenters were quick to jump on the controversial statement.

“Your job is to sing Kiss From A Rose. Do that and be quiet,” one wrote. Another, “Pretty gauche to blame women for the crimes of men”.

Others asked if he had the same criticism of ex-wife, Heidi Klum, who’s long-running TV show, Project Runway, was produced by The Weinstein Company.

“Sooooo, are you going to post Heidi’s picture too being that she was friends with him as well … Or is your outrage selective?” one asked.

“So when are you going to post about Heidi Klum? She was super close with that man,” said another.

While it’s not entirely unreasonable to wonder if people who worked with Weinstein knew about his behaviour, Oprah is among other women in Hollywood, like Meryl Streep, who have since cut ties with Weinstein, claiming not to have known about the calculated pattern of sexual assault and harassment.

Oprah addressed the allegations in October last year in a CBS interview.

“There have been women who not only had the disease to please, that’s a part of it, but who felt that in order to keep my job, in order to keep my positioning, in order to keep moving forward, I’ve got to smile, I’ve got to look the other way, I’ve got to pretend he didn’t say that, I’ve got to pretend he didn’t touch me — I think those days are about to be over.”

In a Facebook post, she added:

Oprah is also one of the many celebrities who’ve pledged thousands of dollars to the Time’s Up movement, which will fund legal aid for women in all workplaces to pursue incidents of workplace sexual assault and harassment.
