Isla Fisher just perfectly put in words the 'identity crisis' that comes from divorce.

After 14 years of marriage and more than 20 years together, Sacha Baron Cohen and Australian actor Isla Fisher announced their divorce in April 2024.

Baron Cohen and Fisher decided to end their marriage in 2023, and made the decision public a year later.

Over a year on from the divorce announcement, Fisher has given her most candid interview to date. "I've had a tough couple of years, but I'm making it through," she told Harper's Bizarre Australia, referring to her split from Baron Cohen, with whom she shares three children.

The Wedding Crashers actress said she's excited to shift her priorities.

"I'm really excited for the next chapter. I'm refocusing on my career, because previously I was very much focused on my kids, which I still am, obviously, because [they're] my true love. But I'm enjoying tackling work again."

One moment in the interview hit the nail on the head in terms of the 'identity crisis' that can follow divorce, especially given that Fisher's rise to Hollywood fame happened in tandem with her romance with Baron Cohen.

"I'm trying to remind myself of my new identity as somebody outside of a partnership and to stay as buoyant as possible. Any time there's change, it's hard to adapt. But hopefully I'm doing an okay job," she said.

This has meant that the Australian actress can finally do something for herself, without needing to consider her partner. "That's been one of the benefits of a challenging situation: the luxury of asking myself, 'What would I like to do professionally and privately?'" Fisher pondered.

Back in June 2025, Fisher and Baron Cohen shared a message on their Instagram to announce they had settled their divorce.

"Our divorce has now been finalised," they wrote.

"We are proud of all we've achieved together and, continuing our great respect for each other, we remain friends and committed to co-parenting our wonderful children. We ask for the media to continue to respect our children's privacy."

The couple announced the decision to end their marriage via coordinated social media posts in 2024.

"After a long tennis match lasting over twenty years, we are finally putting our racquets down," the couple wrote alongside a photo that featured the two actors wearing matching tennis whites.

"In 2023 we jointly filed to end our marriage. We have always prioritised our privacy, and have been quietly working through this change."

They continued: "We forever share in our devotion and love for our children. We sincerely appreciate your respecting our family's wish for privacy."

In February 2025, Fisher called her divorce "the most difficult thing" she's been through in an interview with The Sunday Times, adding that she "learned so much about [herself] in the process".

"I never imagined my family being separated, but we are committed and loving parents," she said.

When Fisher shared some photos from her shoot with the publication on Instagram, Baron Cohen was publicly supportive,

"Stunning photoshoot," he wrote in the comments, to which Fisher responded, "Thank you," alongside a smiling face emoji.

Baron Cohen, 53, and Fisher, 49, who have three children together, met at a Sydney party in 2001.

"She was hilarious. We were at a very pretentious party, and me and her bonded over taking the mick out of the other people in the party," Baron Cohen previously said in an interview with the New York Times.

They were engaged in 2004, and married in 2010 in a Jewish ceremony after Fisher converted to Judaism. The family split their time between Australia, London and America.

The divorce announcement came a few months after Baron Cohen denied claims made by actor Rebel Wilson in her book, Rebel Rising, that the Borat star sexually harassed her on the set of 2016 movie The Brothers Grimsby.

In an excerpt from the book, Wilson claimed Baron Cohen frequently asked her to perform scenes naked.

"I was like, 'Ha, I don't do nudity, Sacha.'"

She went on to describe an incident where Baron Cohen announced the pair would film an extra scene.

"SBC says very matter-of-factly: 'Okay, now I want you to stick your finger up my ass.' And I'm like, 'What?? ... No!'"

Wilson continues, "I was now scared. I wanted to get out of there, so I finally compromised: I slapped him on the ass and improvised a few lines as the character."

The Ali G star vehemently denied the claims via a statement.

"While we appreciate the importance of speaking out, these demonstrably false claims are directly contradicted by extensive detailed evidence, including contemporaneous documents, film footage, and eyewitness accounts from those present before, during and after the production of Grimsby," the statement read.

While the couple say they filed for divorce in 2023, it was reported that Wilson's allegations were the driving force behind Fisher making their split public.
