Roxy Jacenko fiercely defends "sharenting," and offers advice to other parents.

Scroll through the Instagram feed of Roxy Jacenko, author of Strictly Confidential and owner of Sweaty Betty PR in Sydney, and you will see her five-year-old daughter in pretty dresses, her two-year-old son’s face covered in bath bubbles, Jacenko herself in active wear, drinking coffee, putting on makeup.

The mother-of-two is no stranger to social media and, this morning, she was asked about the controversial topic of “sharenting” on the Channel 9 program Today. 

Sharenting is a term used to describe parents sharing images and videos of their children on social media. The concept has been in the news lately, with people asking – how much is too much? Is there a line?

“I am the poster girl [for Sharenting],” Jacenko admitted. As well as her own account, the PR-star has created an account specifically for her five-year-old daughter Pixie.

On @pixiecurtis, you can see Jacenko’s daughter swimming, going to school, and wearing different styles of clothing for sponsored posts (Pixie is managed by Jacenko’s talent agency Ministry of Talent).

“There’s nothing wrong with sharing pictures of your children, videos and so on,” Jacenko continued. “I mean, you do it because you’re proud. We all do it because we’re proud. We’re not doing it for any other reason.”

She did, however, caution parents to be careful with the content of the images they share with the world.

“I would never share a picture of the children in the bath, or anything like that,” Jacenko said. “You have to realise that anyone can be looking if your profile isn’t private.”

“There’s nothing wrong with being proud and sharing the images, whether it’s on your own Facebook or on the Instagram of your five-year-old,” she said. “But, at the same time, be smart about what you choose to share.”

Earlier this year, Jacenko was criticised for Instagramming her outfits on her way to attend her husband’s court case. Oliver Curtis was on trial, and found guilty, for insider trading in June this year.

Not long after her husband was sent to prison, Jacenko was diagnosed with breast cancer.

“This a year I never, ever thought I’d face,” Jacenko also told Today during this morning’s program. “Yes it’s been tough. But at the same time I’m very lucky. I think the positives outweigh the negatives in my life.”
