Remember when a heartbroken guy gave away a free trip around the world? They're back!

UPDATE:

Remember Elizabeth Gallagher? The woman who, thanks to her lucky name, scored herself a free round-the-world trip with this guy?

Jordan Axani

Jordan Axani had just been dumped by a different Liz Gallagher and offered the non-refundable ticket to any woman who bore that name.

So, did they hate each other? Did they ditch each other? Did they fall in lurve?

Well, the trip is over – and it turns out the answer is: none of the above.

Jordan Axani and Elizabeth Gallagher, who it turns out was nothing like his ex-girlfriend except for that whole same-name thing, have both arrived back to their respective homes.

And despite what punters around the world were hoping for, they don’t seem to want to change that living situation anytime soon.

“When you spend three weeks with somebody, travelling around, you get to know anybody pretty well. I feel like I’ve known [her] for years after this,” Axani said.

“It sort of brought out this brother-sister dynamic between us,” Axani told CTV News.

Siblings. Ouch.

Ms Gallagher, who is from Nova Scotia and has a boyfriend, told local media: “We probably got along better because we were strangers. We didn’t have a relationship to break.”

The pair set off on December 21 from Toronto and returned on January 8, visiting New York, Milan, Venice, Vienna, Prague, New Delhi, Khao Lak, and Hong Kong.

When asked how her boyfriend felt about the trip Elizabeth said, “He understands that I’ve always wanted to travel so while he’s not happy I’m taking off for nearly a month at Christmas with a random guy – he’s smiling through it”.

She added that while she initially thought the trip was ‘crazy,’ she spent hours preparing by talking to Axani over the phone.

“It definitely did seem a little bit creepy at the beginning but now that I talked to him it’s less creepy and more awesome,’ she said.

“It was wild,” Ms Gallagher told The Morning Show. “And it’s just because of my name… I have to thank my mother for that.”

Last month Jordan Axani, 27, from Toronto Canada offered a free Around the World ticket to any Canadian with the same name as his ex-girlfriend (Elizabeth Gallagher).

Axani posted on Reddit explaining that he and his girlfriend had recently split – leaving him with a spare ticket for a ‘wicked’ trip around the world over Christmas.

The ticket had a strict no-transfer policy, but hadn’t required any passport information at the time of booking so Axani asked if any Elizabeth Gallagher would be interested in accompanying him.

There was no catch, no rules – Liz could do whatever she wanted once she got off the plane.

Well folks – the new Elizabeth Gallagher has been found. The lucky Elizabeth Quinn Gallagher, a 23-year-old student from Nova Scotia has volunteered to go on this bizarre journey.

The ‘new’ Liz has a serious boyfriend and apparently (according to the media) he’s not too happy about the rendezvous.

But Axani told the New York Post, “It’s strictly a platonic trip. It’s going to be great.”

The new Liz admits that she initially thought the trip sounded slightly crazy but after speaking with Axani on the phone for hours she decided it was a great idea.

“It definitely did seem a little bit creepy at the beginning, but now that I talked to him, it’s less creepy and more awesome,” she told the New York Post.

Liz is also not denying that her boyfriend isn’t overly thrilled about the whole thing. But she is heading off anyway.

The trip begins on December 21st in New York City and will continue through to Milan, Prague, Paris, Bangkok and New Delhi before rounding up in Toronto on January 12th. No other plans have been made – complete spontaneity people.

Today, I wish my name was Elizabeth Gallagher.

Because I am in need of a free plane ticket around the world and this guy’s giving one away – if you happen to share the name of his ex-girlfriend.

Your next boyfriend perhaps, Elizabeth?

This sounds shady. But like all good ideas, this one was born out of horrible heartbreak.

Jordan Axani, 27, from Toronto, has taken to Reddit to explain his situation and ask for help. His motive is simple – to make sure the spare plane ticket he bought for his ex for their Christmas holiday won’t go to waste.

I need your help. You see, in March I booked a fairly wicked trip around the world for this Christmas for my ex and I. While our relationship has come to a close, I am still planning on going on the trip and she is not (naturally). And because I hate the idea of a ticket around the world going to waste, I am looking for a Canadian named Elizabeth Gallagher who could use the ticket.

And the other catch? Oh wait, there isn’t one.

He’s just a good man, hoping for good karma.

If it’s all starting to sound too good to be true, read the ground rules set out below. Just don’t take your name for granted, Elizabeth.

Axani posted on Reddit:

Some ground rules:

1. I am not looking for anything in return. I am not looking for companionship, romance, drugs, a trade, or to take selfies with you in front of the Christmas Market in Prague. If you feel compelled to toss me a couple hundred bucks, great. Really the only thing I ask for is that you enjoy this trip and that it brings you happiness.

2. We can travel together and see some cool stuff – or not. I’m easy and have no problem with someone taking the tickets and doing their own thing (see ya on the plane!). Embracing the spontaneity of life is more my thing, though, so if you want to travel together (and are not an axe murderer) I’m likely game.

3. This is for the flights only. In the wake of the breakup I have deferred all further planning for the trip. No hotels, trains or anything have been booked. You’re on your own, bucko. Having said that, I will buy the first round of vino at JFK upon departure.

4. We can totally stay in India a couple days longer. Long story, but if we can come to agreement the airline can push back the return flight on both tickets (it’s both or nothin’) with no charge.

So, Elizabeth Gallagher – if you’re still interested, just tick the five criteria boxes and you’re good to go:

1. Be sane, smart and (hopefully) interesting.

2. Have always wanted to travel, but maybe haven’t had the opportunity or cash to see much of the world.

3. Be named Elizabeth Gallagher and have a Canadian passport.

4. Be ready for a rather spontaneous life experience that will, one day, be an epic story that you’ll tell your kids.

5. Pay it forward. I’ve been lucky in life and this is me giving back to the universe. Do something similar someday.

Interested? Shoot me a note to jaxani@gmail.com and we’ll chat.

Axani genuinely wants to make sure the ticket doesn’t go to waste. He explains that he’s not looking for anything romantic but that, “a name change on a ticket is damn near impossible.” And when you see his flight itinerary, you understand just how much of a pain a name change/cancellation would be.

The route is as follows:

– December 21: NYC –> Milan

– December 28: Prague –> Paris

– December 29: Paris –> Bangkok

– January 7: Bangkok –> New Dehli

– January 8: New Dehli –> Toronto

And for all of us non-Liz’s out there who know an Elizabeth Gallagher, pay it forward, think of good karma and PASS THIS ON.

Would you do the same? How would you pay it forward?
