Robin Bailey knows more than most how brutal breakfast radio can be.

Robin Bailey knows a lot about the brutality of commercial radio.

“I think in this business you work out who your friends are, you know who your work colleagues are, and you know who your associates are,” she told Mia Freedman in her first interview after losing her breakfast radio job at Brisbane’s 97.3, a place she had worked for 10 years.

2016 was a tumultuous year for Robin.

The Brisbane-based media personality has been raising her three sons as a single mother since her husband’s death, and had shared that journey for two years on the radio show she loved.

Then, in November, she was told that her contract would not be renewed in 2017.

“The problem for me is that when Tony died, I just had my job,” Robin told Mia on the No Filter podcast.

“This was not a joint decision and I certainly saw my future with 97.3, a place that has been my home and my solace for so many years.”

The Robin, Terry and Bob show had been one of the highest rating breakfasts shows on Australian radio.

Now Robin has found a new home at Brisbane’s Triple M, 104.5.

The radio legend has worked in media for more than 20 years, and has been the sole parent and breadwinner to her three sons, aged 16, 14 and 12, since Tony’s death.

“Now I’m a much stronger human than I was,” she told Mia. “I’ve gone through a lot of stuff to do with my kids in that two year period, and myself, I’ve grown hugely in the process.”
