Why we can't stop staring at these photos of Robert and Steve Irwin.

Last night, 15-year-old Robert Irwin told Lisa Wilkinson on The Sunday Project that he feels a “strong connection” to his dad, who died 12 years ago.

But not only has the teenage conservationist followed in his late father’s career footsteps – adding that working with Steve’s favourite animals makes him “feel the closest” to his dad, he bears a striking resemblance to the beloved Australian icon.

In fact – in a photo Lisa shared to Instagram after the interview with Robert, his 20-year-old sister Bindi and mother Terri, it’s almost impossible to tell them apart.

Sharing the side-by-side photo with the caption: “That’s Robert on the left and his dad Steve around the same age on the right. Amazing,” hundreds of fans shared Lisa’s thoughts.

The image attracted a flood of comments, including: “I swore I was looking at two photos of Robert”, “Spitting image,” and “Uncanny!”

The teen, who is responsible for feeding the crocodiles at Australia Zoo, spoke last night about how his work brings him closer to his father, who died aged 44 after being stabbed by a stingray.

“Doing exactly what dad was doing is such a special experience,” he told Lisa.

Robert, who was just three years old when his dad died, is as Lisa puts it “becoming more and more like his dad each day”.

He’s becoming somewhat of a viral sensation after appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon several times in the past two years – making his own mark as a television personality.
