The story of how Ricky Martin met his fiancé is surprisingly low-key.

For someone as world-famous as Ricky Martin, you would think along with the money, the bright lights of fame and the well-to-do social circles would come more extravagant ways of meeting a future partner.

But for the single father-of-two, his chance meeting with now fiance Jwan Yosef came via a very modern, yet very down-to-earth, setting.

Instagram, of course.

“I met my fiancé on Instagram. I am an art collector and he’s an artist. I’m scrolling and I see this beautiful piece of art … I wrote to him,” Ricky told radio host Andy Cohen.

“And we were talking for, like, six months without me hearing his voice. We talked about art, nothing sexy. He used to live in London. I went to London and I met him.”

From there, the pair’s relationship is well-documented. In April 2016 they began officially dating, and in November, Martin told day-time TV host Ellen Degeneres he had proposed.

“I got on my knees…and I had [the ring] in a little velvet pouch. Instead of saying, ‘Will you marry me?’ I said, ‘I got you something!’

“It was bad,” the singer said.

“Then he was like, ‘Yes…?’ So, I finally said ‘I want to spend my life with you,’ and he was like, ‘What is the question?’

“I asked, ‘Would you marry me?’ and that’s it.”

Martin went on to re-iterate the fact it was Yosef’s art that had initially attracted him.

Yup.

“He’s a conceptual artist and I’m a collector. I started looking for art and I saw his art and I went crazy because I really love what he does. Really original,” Martin told Ellen.

“And then I contacted him.”

In 2008, Martin had twin boys, Matteo and Valentino, via a surrogate mother. It wasn’t until 2010 that the singer came out as gay, writing on his website, “I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am.”
