We need to talk about Richie. Australia’s latest Bachelor.
Promo is ramping up this season, and the trailers are slowly giving away more and more of what we can expect.
Thirty-year-old Richie is now miles away from the goofy, shy guy we all thought he was after watching him lose out to Sacha on last year’s Bachelorette.
Then, he was a ‘ropes technician’ who thoroughly enjoyed dressing as an old man and stuttered around pretty girls. Now, he works in that most macho of macho places – on an oil rig. We think that maybe this is a rebrand of his old job, or maybe in the few months between filming, the good man went to sea.
And for the new, made-over Richie, there’s something for everyone.
Rosie and Laura review The Bachelor trailer on the latest episode of The Binge:
“They want him to be all the things,” says Laura Brodnik on this week’s episode of The Binge. “They want him to be suave and James Bond-esque. Yet they want to show off his sensitive side. He’s nervous about being in a room full of women. He doesn’t know how he’s going to handle it. And they play on his goofy persona. He’s a goofy, sauve, James Bond who is scared of women.”
Are you confused?
Rosie Waterland thinks Richie’s new ‘tude is a bit of smoke and mirrors designed to distract you from the fact that really, Richie was a very safe choice for a Bachelor.
“He’s actually the most stereotypical, common choice. He’s just a white, Aussie, okka, bloke,” she says. “I hope that he is going to end up a whole lot less likeable than everyone assumes he will be. Just because it’s funner when the Bachelor is a bit unlikeable.” Rosie continued.
Here’s to Richie. International Bachelor of Mystery.
Do you think Richie is a boring choice for Bachelor. Are you excited by the new trailer?
