The Bodyguard is the sexy, espionage-thriller that everyone’s talking about and if you’ve googled, Richard Madden, the actor behind the title role, let me assure you, you’re not alone.
The 32-year-old Scotsman plays Sergeant David Budd, the Afghanistan war veteran assigned to protect Home Secretary, Julia Maontague, but Game of Thrones fans will recognise him as Robb Stark. And his acting portfolio doesn’t end there – Madden has also starred in the 2013 live action Disney film Cinderella, as well as the 2018 Netflix romantic comedy, Ibiza.
If your desire for information on Madden extends beyond his CV, you’ve come to the right place. We did some very important stalking research and here is everything we’ve managed to find out about the actor so far.
The basics – age, background, early life etc.
Born in the Scottish village of Elderslie, on June 18, 1986 (FYI he’s a Gemini), Madden originally began acting at the Paisley Arts Centre’s youth theatre programme as a way to overcome his shyness.
Madden’s mother and father work as a classroom assistant and fireman respectively. The actor told The Guardian he was the first member of his family to opt for a ‘creative career,’ a choice his family apparently found “completely bizarre”.
“There’s no background of creativity in my family; there are no actors or musicians,” he said.
In 2007, he graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, whose notable alumni include Alan Cumming, Alison Brie, David Tennant and James McAvoy.
