ROADTEST: ‘This staple beauty brand just launched a new lip crayon and game-changing mascara. Here’s my verdict.’

Confession: I’m very insecure about my lips.

They are naturally two toned and although that’s in fashion right now, that hasn't always been the case, so it's been a bit of a burden for me.

Because of this, I’ve always been very particular about my choices in lip products — my standards for things like lipsticks, lip liners and lip crayons, have always, well... been pretty high.

This is mainly because my top lip is significantly darker than my bottom which means finding full coverage lip colours haven't exactly been easy.

Naturally, I would always reach for the heavier lipsticks because from experience, lighter formulas weren’t able to provide full coverage and therefore weren’t able to even out the tone of my lips.

So when I heard about the new Revlon ColorStay Matte Lite Crayons, I knew I had to get my hands on them. I was intrigued because normally, at least from my experience, the words 'matte' and 'lite' usually don't go hand-in-hand.

That doesn't mean I love matte lip product any less, but in the past, I would always run into one main obstacle: they are usually quite drying and feel heavy on your lips — not cute.

So, upfront, just so we're clear, I'm pretty sceptical when it comes to these type of products.

However, when I first applied Revlon’s ColorStay Matte Lite Crayons, I thought “immediately yes”.

The formula is developed with micro-fine nano-pigments so it makes the crayons 30 per cent lighter than your average lipstick. And I could feel that difference almost instantly — it easily glided across my lips.

I used the crayon tip to first line my lips and then I went in with the flat side to fill them which worked (and looked) a treat.

Now for the most important part of this little roadtest. Did it provide me with full coverage? Well, I tried five out of the ten available shades and all of them easily evened out my lip tone — so yes, colour me impressed!

My favourite shade is Clear The Air, and it has now become my staple everyday colour.

Each crayon also comes with a built in sharpener which is a huge win in my books as I’m constantly using lip liners on the go meaning that the sharpener that sits in the bottom of my bag sometimes... disappears mysteriously.

Since I was so impressed with their new lip crayon formula, I knew I had to try their latest eye product too: The So Fierce! Eyes Wide Open Mascara.

To be honest, I had stopped wearing mascara altogether. I’m very lucky that my natural eyelashes are thick and long, and I would always find that after about five hours of wearing mascara, my eyes would start to feel heavy and cakey, and I’d want to take it off around midday.

However, despite my previous mascara-avoidant behaviour, I went in with an open mind.

The product promises to give lashes a lifted and high-volume look, and after deciding to first try it without curling my lashes, I was so glad to see that it delivered.

My lashes looked sleek and voluminous:

The curvaceous push-up brush is able to coat even the baby lashes in the corners of my eyes. The product is also super light, and I didn’t feel any sensations of “weighing down” throughout the day.

The product also has up to 24 hours of wear which meant it was able to hold my lashes up the entire day without any need for reapplication.

Now, let’s get to the part everyone wants to know: is it a mission to take off at the end of the day?

Nope!

The mascara came off smoothly with no intense rubbing necessary, meaning no rogue eyelashes falling out in the process. (Yeah, I know, what magic is this??).

The mascara’s formula is infused with Cannabis Sativa Hemp Seed Oil so it’s able to not only condition the eyelashes while it’s on but it also leaves them feeling soft and healthy after the product is removed.

I’ve been trialling both the Revlon ColorStay Matte Lite Crayons and the Revlon So Fierce! Eyes Wide Open Mascara for a few weeks now and I have to say, both these products have managed to find a permanent place in my everyday makeup routine... which is no easy feat.
