'I tried those Rare Beauty Tinted Lip Oils you're seeing everywhere. Here's my honest thoughts.'

When it comes to beauty launches, there are a few select brands that get me really excited.

Rare Beauty is one of those brands.

And for weeks I've been seeing reviews of the brand's newest launch: Rare Beauty Pinch Tinted Lip Oils. 

Everyone's been flipping out over them. Telling us how good they are. Slapping them all over their lips and praising their formulas. So, I immediately got jealous and called them in for a trial.

Now, before we get into it, I feel like it's necessary to mention that I hardly ever wear lipstick. 

I'm more of a balm/gloss/lip oil type girl, because I have the kind of lips that feel like an *actual* Cruskit 24/7, and no matter how many times a lipstick markets itself as 'hydrating', it's never enough. Lips always feel gross.

When it comes to tinted lip oils, I've always loved the Clarins Lip Oil, have dabbled in the Dior one and am newly addicted to the MCoBeauty lip oil dupe.

So, how does the new Rare Beauty Tinted Lip Oil compare? Is it worth the hype? 

Here are my honest thoughts.

What is the Rare Beauty Tinted Lip Oil?

The Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil is available in eight different shades – 'Affection', 'Delight', 'Happy', 'Honesty', 'Hope', 'Joy', 'Serenity' and 'Wonder'.

They cost $35 each and they're available from Sephora.

I received all eight shades and couldn't WAIT to get them on my face.

Here's what they looked like:

The product is described on the website as an innovative gel-to-oil formula that starts glossy and leaves lips tinted while staying comfortable — never sticky — all day.

It promises lips will stay smooth, hydrated and nourished all day while looking fuller and healthier.

How did you go with it?

Okay! My thoughts. 

Overall, I found the new formula to be delightfully lightweight and non-sticky. It applies easily and the doe-foot applicator is perfect for precise application.

When it comes to the finish, one layer will give you a sheer wash of colour – which I quite like. (Again, not a bold lipstick girl.) However, if you're after more colour payoff, you can definitely apply a couple of layers as the formula was really lovely and buildable. 

Just to give you a bit of an idea, in the below picture, I'm wearing two layers of 'Happy'.

Now, while the finish looks high-shine post-application, I was surprised to find out that it actually dries quite matte.

With this in mind, it's definitely not a traditional lip oil – it's nothing like the iconic Clarins or Dior formulas. While I was expecting it to have a similar finish, it actually feels more like a tinted lip product than an oil. 

It does, however, leave a really nice tint on your lips – and the stain lasts forever. 

In fact, after swatching the shade 'Affection' on the back of my hand, I couldn't rub it off. Like.... it just... wouldn't come off.

Okay, but this is pretty different for me, you guys.

It's also not in the slightest bit thick or tacky and feels almost as if you're wearing nothing. 

One thing to note though is that it isn't as hydrating as I hoped. I applied it before running out to grab lunch and noticed that when I got back to the office, my lips felt a little dry and needed a slathering of lip balm.

In saying this, I do have very dry lips and am a self-confessed lip balm addict, so it may be different for someone else.

I also noticed it had a mild mint flavour. I'm quite partial to a little bit of flavouring in lip products (ahem, lookin' at you Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in Gummy Bear), so I don't mind. 

However, if you're funny about scents in your lip products, this might not be for you.

The verdict.

Here we are! The all-important verdict.

All in all, I would definitely try these formulas again. However, next time I'll probably apply a gloss over the top for a bit of added shine/moisture. As I've mentioned more times than possibly necessary, I'm not a matte kind of girl. 

If you're looking for something really hydrating and nourishing, these are probably not for you. However, if you're after something that offers a lasting colour payoff, this delivers a really pretty stain that lasts way longer than a lipstick would. I'm still trying to rub the stain off the back of my hand.

While there is a good selection of shades available, the pinkier colours such as 'Happy' and 'Joy' were close to my natural lip colouring and just made my lips look... better.
