'I tried the meal kit everyone's raving about right now. Here's what actually surprised me.'

Do I love shopping for fresh ingredients and trying new recipes? Sure do. Planning tasty new dishes and spending my day cooking to feed my family? Oh yes! Do I have the time for any of it though? Nope.

QuiteLike is pitched as the meal kit for food lovers, and given that's my personal brand, it's already ticking a big box. The lure of being able to ease the mental load of planning, purchasing and prepping dinner in the back-to-school period ticked another.

Deliciousness on the table in a flash is exactly what we ordered, and it delivered in spades. But more on that in a moment.

No planning, no shopping and just the things you need, dropped at your door. All that's left is the joy of cooking a delicious dinner. My family wondered why I was suddenly so enthusiastic about mealtimes. A stress-free mum is a happy mum, but shhh — don't tell them my secret.

Never boring, ever-changing menus keep dinners fresh and fun for us — so selecting the week's QuiteLike meals is like choosing from restaurant menu. You can mix it up, try new things and basically cook your way around the world.

There's a vast variety of recipes, 30 delicious seasonal recipes to choose from each week (from a portfolio of more than 600) in a vast array of cuisines, pretty impressive. You can whittle down your choice by selecting your protein, cooking time or dietary preferences and click, which made perusing easier. Family-friendly options were highlighted, and I chose from that list because I have a fussy Mr 9 and a picky 12-year-old, but I think a lot of them would actually appeal.

For my first order, I chose meals that would please everyone around the table but were also full of veg (my favourite). We had a Chicken with Crunchy Celery Potato Salad and a Pork Yaki Udon. Both so good and gobbled up by all of us. I would totally order them again, but there are actually too many other mouth-watering options I must try first.

What surprised me about QuiteLike.

QuiteLike currently delivers around NSW, VIC, QLD and ACT, and after ordering our box from Melbourne, I liked that you receive a text the evening before your delivery with a link to track your box as it makes your way to your home. Our box arrived exactly when the message said it would — no waiting around, nothing for us to do except unpack.

I definitely felt like January was the right era to reclaim some time with the kids while they were still off school, and remember what it feels like to enjoy cooking. I think it'd be a very handy mid-week solution for families getting back into the school routine, when everything is going on at once and you're dreading the inevitable "what's for dinner?" question. Smart habits form now for the year ahead, right?

The recipe cards are clear and so easy to follow — when you have ingredients supplied it's all a cinch — and you'll be dishing up some super serves faster than you can say bon appétit. Even my kids could help prep when the method (with pictures) was in print before them.

A great perk I found in the process too, is that you become a Cook's Perks member automatically when you place an order, and if you enjoy the meals and continue to place orders, QuiteLike will show its appreciation in the form of surprise gifts, extra Flybuys, and the occasional complimentary meal. Glorious.

Our final verdict.

QuiteLike is Aussie-owned and sources as much local produce as possible, with all its meat and seafood coming from Australia, alongside the brands we already know and trust in our kitchens. Cooking up ways to be as sustainable as possible, QuiteLike will only send the things you need, limiting waste.

The fresh ingredients we received were exactly how I'd pick them if I picked them myself. Plentiful, generous, bright and fresh. The zucchinis (to go in our udon dish) were an awesome size and delicious, and the recipe made the most of this with plenty included. Our chicken recipe made more than enough for the four of us, and the salad was crunchy, creamy and yum. I'm certain it all tastes better because it was so easy to make.

It comes as little surprise to us that QuiteLike was the CHOICE top-rated meal delivery kit in 2024-25.
