Queen Mary is coming for Meghan Markle’s brand in a big way.

If you thought straight men had cornered the podcasting market, it's time to make way for the new frontier: royal podcasters.

You see, Queen Mary of Denmark (aka our Mary of Tassie) is launching a podcast. This comes hot on the heels of Queen Camilla launching her own audio show, Reading Room.

But we all know who did it first: it was our gal, Meghan Markle.

Two years ago, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex launched Archetypes which set the, well…. archetype of this sort of royal podcast.

So what's Mary's all about? She will examine the loneliness epidemic among young people in a podcast titled Lonely Youth. Announcing the news on the official palace's Instagram, she wrote in Danish about what prompted the move.

The post translated from Danish to English reads "I'm extremely excited to be listening to a podcast. I often listen when I have to move from one place to another," she began. Okay, good start!

I also listen to podcasts when moving places!

"Some days I'm in the mood for entertainment and other days I use it to gain knowledge and new input."

So true, queenie.

But this podcast is for an important cause and will be made in association with the Mary Foundation.

"We know from the study 'Loneliness in Denmark' that 73 per cent of 16-19 year olds experience loneliness, whether they are alone or with others. At the same time, 17 per cent of 16-24 year olds feel very lonely," her post continued.

"These are heavy numbers that we need to do something about. A podcast is not something we have much experience with yet in the Mary Foundation, but I hope you will listen and feel welcome."

Given the topic, Mary's podcast sounds like more of a community-based show than Meghan's celebrity interview series.

Markle first launched Archetypes with Spotify in 2022, with the show described as 'a podcast where we investigate, dissect, and subvert the labels that try to hold women back.'

At first, it was hugely successful with over a million downloads each episode. However, as the season continued, the numbers dwindled.

The first season featured 12 episodes, which included interviews with celebs ranging from Mariah Carey and Mindy Kaling to Serena Williams and Paris Hilton.

Archetypes did not return for a second season amid rising tension between the Sussexes and Spotify.

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek told the BBC that the podcast was axed because it "wasn't making consumers happy."

"Five years ago Spotify was nowhere in podcasting. We thought new innovation was needed to happen here," he said.

"And the truth of the matter is some of it has worked, some of it hasn't. We're learning from those and we are moving on and we wish all of the ones we didn't renew with the best of success they can have going forward."

In a joint statement from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex through their company Archewell, the couple stated that they had "mutually agreed to part ways" and were "proud of the series".

But the infighting continued as Spotify executive Bill Simmons made some allegations about the couple on his podcast.

"The f**king grifters! That's the podcast we should have launched with them," he said.

"I've got to get drunk one night and tell the story of the Zoom I had with Harry to try and help him with a podcast idea. It's one of my best stories."

Too many podcasts! Too much time!

Despite all the drama with Spotify, Meghan's Archetypes has since found a new platform. In February, it was confirmed Meghan's 12-series would be available to stream on the podcast network, Lemonada Media.

Either way, Mary and Meghan's podcasts couldn't be more different, so hopefully they can coexist together.

But the second Mary announces a line of artisan jam, Meghan better watch her back. Not today, Mary! Not today!
