Princess Diana had a collection of 'cleavage bags'. Genius.

It’s been revealed the Princess of Wales referred to her clutch bags as “cleavage bags” because she would use them to hide her cleavage from the paparazzi as she exited a car.

How do we know this?

Anya Hindmarch is a fashion designer with accessory stores across the globe. Lady Di was a regular customer, and used to visit Hindmarch in her first shop on Walton Street in Chelsea in the UK.

"She was a very loyal customer and a lot of fun," Hindmarch told The Telegraph.

"She would come and see us with no bodyguards or any fuss. We used to laugh when we designed what she called her 'cleavage bags', little satin clutches which she would cover her cleavage with when she stepped out of cars."

Hindmarch is best known for her 2007 collaboration with social change organisation Shift.

She created the "I'm not a plastic bag" tote that sold out across the globe. The canvas bag retailed for $15 and meant 312 million fewer plastic bags were distributed during the following year.

The Prince of Wales wrote to Hindmarch congratulating her on the success of "the marvellous new bag".

We imagine the Princess, had she been alive in 2007, would have been photographed clutching the bag to her chest as an environmentally-friendly cleavage protector.
