CONFIRMED: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are engaged.

They kept us hanging for months, but at last the British Royal family has announced that Prince Harry has become engaged to US actress Meghan Markle.

In a statement via social media Kensington Palace confirmed the pair became engaged earlier in November.

“Prince Harry has informed The Queen and other close members of The Royal Family. The wedding will take place in spring 2018. Further details will be announced in due course,” the Palace said.

The couple will formally share the happy news with the world via a broadcast on British television in a few hours time.

In a statement, the 36-year-old Suits star’s parents, Thomas Markle and Donna Ragland, said they are “incredibly happy” about the impending nuptials.

“Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents,” the statement read.

“We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together.”

The enthusiasm is shared by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine and William, who said:

“We are very excited for Harry and Meghan. It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together.”

After months of rumours and speculation in the press, the Palace confirmed the pair were dating in November 2016. Although, it wasn’t until an interview in the September issue of Vanity Fair that Markle spoke publicly about their relationship.

“We’re a couple,” she told the magazine. “We’re in love. I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time. This is for us. It’s part of what makes it so special, that it’s just ours. But we’re happy. Personally, I love a great love story.”

Harry, 33, is fifth in line to the British throne after his father Charles, his brother William, and nephew and niece, George and Charlotte.
