The announcement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement today is making all of us pause, forget about the current plague of grotesque news, and allow ourselves to feel warm and happy and a little bit hopeful about a match that has withstood plenty and remained seemingly pure.
Prince Harry, 33, says there’s another person, his mother Diana, who is most definitely “jumping up and down with excitement” at the pending nuptials. She’s just doing so “somewhere else”.
“It’s days like today when I really miss having her around and miss sharing the happy news,” he said in a video released by The Royal Family today.

Diana, Princess of Wales, was killed in a car crash when Prince Harry was 12. It was August of 1997 and the tragedy catapulted Harry, alongside his brother William who is three years his senior, into the public spotlight.
