Prince Harry just dished out the most non-royal dating advice we've ever heard.

You may have heard the news that the world is about to get a new Princess (or is it a Duchess? It’s all very confusing…) but what you may not know is that we’ve also been gifted a brand new relationship guru.

That’s right, this guy, along with being all cute and sentimental by proposing over a roast chicken with diamonds that belonged to his late mother, is also dishing out love advice left, right and centre.

Speaking to the BBC about his engagement to American actress Meghan Markle, 33-year-old Harry joked that the pair had dated "in reverse", swapping fancy dates for cosy nights in at home.

"Cosy nights in in front of the television, cooking dinner just the two of us by ourselves in our little cottage rather than going out and being seen in public" were the norm for the couple during the year-and-a-half relationship.

But the pair say it brought them much closer in a far shorter period of time.

"It's provided different opportunities and it's made us a hell of a lot closer in a shorter space of time, without question.

"It was an opportunity to really get to know each other without people looking, or trying to take photos of us on their phones and all that kind of stuff."

And since that seemed to work out so well for the couple (a royal wedding is only a few months away, after all), Harry had a message for anyone in a new relationship.

"Maybe slow down on the dates and maybe spend more time at home," he said.

If it's good enough for the royals, then it's good enough for us.

'Hiding' from the public eye is a common theme throughout Harry and Meghan's relationship, with Harry acknowledging that no matter how much he tried to prepare Meghan, 36, for the massive public interest in their relationship it would never be enough.

"I tried to warn [Meghan] as much as possible," Harry said, adding that they had a few "sit down conversations" on the couch before their love became public knowledge.

"I think both of us were totally surprised by the reaction, after the first five or six months we'd had to ourselves.

"I think you can have as many conversations as you want and try to prepare as much as possible but we were totally unprepared."

Meghan said that she had "no understanding" of what life as the girlfriend - and now fiancée - of a Prince would be like.

"There's a misconception that because I have worked in the entertainment industry that this would be something I'd be familiar with," she said.

"Even though I've been on my show for six years... I've never been part of tabloid culture, I've never been in pop culture to that degree and I've lived relatively a quiet life.

"That was a really stark difference out of the gate."
