Prince George is… a bit cheeky.

We regularly see him giggling and making faces at very important events like royal weddings – and in his fifth birthday portrait from earlier this year, he showcased the cheekiest grin of all time.

So, it makes sense that George is just as cheeky in private. At Christmas time. With presents.

According to Hello Magazine, the young royal’s dad Prince William told a radio DJ in 2016 that his son has a naughty habit of sneaking into his Christmas gifts early.

William said George, who was three at the time, had started to sneakily open a few gifts under the family’s Christmas tree at Anmer Hall, their Norfolk home.

“I had a really nice chat with Prince William who told me that this was their last week at work, as it were, before Christmas,” KISS FM DJ AJ King told Hello after the event.

“He said they were all really excited about it and that George is already opening his presents. He thought it was quite funny. That’s kids for you, even the ones that are princes!”

Well, it turns out this particular habit might be hereditary because Princess Diana, George’s late grandmother, once admitted to it as well.

In letters auctioned off in 2010, Diana wrote to her personal beautician Janet Filderman to say she could never keep a parcel until “the big day”.

“I rushed home to open your Christmas present, which I thought was quite good considering the 25th is actually two weeks away!!” Diana wrote on December 14, 1985.

She refers to Prince William, who was three at the time: “I could not resist opening my present, as a parcel of any shape or form has never been safe with me & I fear that William has also picked up this dreadful habit from his mother, as I find wrapping paper undone in the most extraordinary places!”

So, there you have it. Prince George and his “dreadful” habit are in good company.
