'The new 3-in-1 product that cut my skincare routine in half.'

Mamamia's Tried and Tested series is your review of the latest to hit our desks in beauty, health and wellbeing. You won't find any #sponsored content here, just honest, relatable and independent advice. This week, Mamamia's lifestyle writer and podcast host Em Vernem, trials a new skincare brand's 3-in-1 product.

I have a love/hate relationship with beauty and skincare.

I love learning about new products, I love the feeling of freshly cleansed skin, I love the confidence I get after nailing a winged eyeliner and I love sharing beauty tips and recommendations with my friends.

What I don't like is actually doing it. I struggle to crawl my way to my sink at the end of the day to double cleanse and I will put off doing my makeup until the very last minute.

My approach is very much a mediocre girl's guide to beauty. Because the effort I want to put into my beauty routine is mediocre at best.

I'm always trying to find new ways to get my skincare/makeup/hair routine done via the easiest route possible.

Turns out the universe clearly heard my first-world problem, because a little tub full of promises slid across my desk a few weeks ago.

New skincare brand Prime Skin has launched a three-in-one Jelly Plump product.

What is Prime Skin's Jelly Plump?

You can buy the product from Prime Skin's website for $56. It's meant to work as a makeup remover, a cleanser and a face mask. So, of course, I immediately had to add it to my mediocre girl's guide to skincare.

If you know me, you'll know I don't do things by halves. I put all my trust in this product as I was about to go travelling overseas and wanted to bring as little as possible — including my skincare.

I didn't want my bag to be weighed down by multiple glass bottles. So I decided to replace Prime Skin's jelly plump with my micellar water (that I use to remove my makeup), my cleanser and my thick night moisturiser.

How did you go?

The product itself comes in a clear tub that you have to scoop out with your fingers. At first, I was a bit hesitant as it looked a lot like men's hair gel and had a similar gooey consistency. However, it smells gorgeous. Not very fragrant but not chemically either.

To remove makeup, it says to take a pea-sized amount and gently rub it into your skin — which is what I did exactly. The product, when used this way, is similar to an oil or a balm cleanser. I massaged it into my skin for a few minutes and then rinsed it off… all my makeup was completely gone. A huge win for the mediocre beauty girls.

The only issue I had was that my face didn't feel squeaky clean. Because the product also acts as a face mask, it feels like you're washing off a moisturiser which leaves an uncomfortable feeling, like I haven't scrubbed it all off.

Putting that feeling aside, as per instructions, I mixed another pea-sized amount with a bit of water and cleansed my face with it. It turned into a milky texture which I vibed, as it felt like a normal cream-based cleanser. Still, after washing it off, I had that same feeling that there was still some residue hanging around.

Finally, I applied a thin layer across my whole face as an overnight mask.

Sleeping in it… took some time to get used to. The jelly plump sinks into the skin pretty slowly, so my hair kept getting stuck in it every time I tossed in the night (and I'm a… tosser (yes, I mean both kinds)).

However, and this is a big however… my skin was so juicy the next morning. It was plump, moisturised, bright, soft and radiant. I was immediately obsessed.

The verdict.

After seeing the results of my skin the next day, all my issues of not being able to wash all the product off and my silly strands getting stuck during the night immediately went away. I've now been using this product as a cleanser and overnight mask every day since. I've gone back to my oil cleanser to remove my makeup as I do need that "clean" feeling somewhere in my routine, but when I'm travelling I just take this with me to do all three steps.

I've been recommending the Jelly plump to anyone who struggles with dull morning skin and who doesn't mind things touching their face at night.
