The first step in any major hair change is deciding exactly what you want to do. The best source of inspiration? All that’s required is a Pinterest board and your favourite celebrities.

But which celebrity haircuts and colours are the most highly requested? We asked some of Australia’s top hairdressers to spill.

1. Alexa Chung

Those effortless waves. That cool "gringe" That enviable balayage. Is it really any surprise that Alexa Chung tops the list?

"She is always a popular celebrity clients bring pictures in of - she is a style icon," says Joey Scandizzo, co-creative director of Eleven Australia.

As we've seen with the popularity of the lob, the shoulder-grazing length is great to style and a perfect way to ease into shorter styles if you've been contemplating a chop but are too scared to go the whole way in one go.

2. Emma Stone

"With Emma Stone, women love her fringe and natural wave and texture. Lots of people bring her in as a colour reference, whether it's her as a blonde or a red head - she suits both," says Scandizzo.

3. Delta Goodrem

Following the return of The Voice, it's not just the contestants that viewers can't get enough of.

"I've had lots of clients request Delta Goodrem thanks to her new cut and colour," says Barney Martin, Pantene Ambassador and hair expert.

4. Lara Bingle

According to Jaye Edwards of Edwards and Co, Lara Bingle is a highly requested source of inspiration - and with that amazing lob and effortless flipped over fringe, it's clear why.

5. Michelle Williams

Since she appeared in the Louis Vuitton campaign last year, both Barney Martin and Edwards and Co's Remington Schulz have had many requests for Michelle Williams' cropped platinum hair.

6. Jessica Alba

With that natural bronde colour and just-past lob length, Schulz has seen a number of clients asking for Jessica Alba-inspired hair.

7. Khloe Kardashian

It may be Kim's hair that makes most of the headlines, but according to hairdressers it's younger sister Khloe that people really love.

"Clients are loving Khloe Kardashian's balayage," says Aleks Abadia, Hair Director at Esstudio Galleria.

8. Nicole Richie

Not one to shy away from more quirky colours (she's been grey and lavender already!), Nicole Richie's candy pink hair is proving to be a big inspiration for many women.

9. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Jaye Edwards of Edwards and Co. gets a number of requests for Rosie Huntington-Whiteley inspired hair, with clients loving both the cut and colour.

Scandizzo reports that face of Maybelline, Gigi Hadid, is particularly popular at the moment.

"Women love her beachy texture and long, healthy looking hair as well as her warm, golden blonde tones," he says.
