The Toy Story franchise has always been an emotional roller coaster, tugging at our heart strings in the way only an animated kids movie can.
And just when you thought the separation of a boy and his beloved childhood toy was enough trauma for one movie, an even more heartbreaking fan theory surrounding Andy’s father is doing the rounds.

While some evidence initially supported the fan theory that Andy’s parents were going through a divorce in the movie’s plot line, the latest theory suggests Andy Snr. may have passed away… from Polio, of all things.
According to Gizmodo, Andy’s father was also named Andy, and was the original owner of the Woody doll. Then in 1959, Andy Sr. contracted polio and most of his toys were destroyed for his safety. This is, except Woody, Slinky, and Mr. Potato Head because Andy Sr. crawled out of his bed (without the use of his legs) to save them from being burned, and hid them in a box.
