Take on the challenge and help raise funds for breast and gynaecological cancers.
This Sunday, 20 October, Sydney is gearing up to take the title for The World’s Longest Yoga Chain as a fundraiser for Cancer Council’s Pink Ribbon.
Why?
This October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and every day about 50 women are told they have breast or a gynaecological cancer.
Cancer Council is the only charity that supports women through every stage of breast cancer by funding world-class research, prevention programs, and providing more than 20 support services for patients, survivors and their families.
Up to a third of cancers are preventable through healthy lifestyle choices including regular exercise so by taking part in The World’s Longest Yoga Chain, we can all make a difference.
One woman’s positive life changes through a cancer diagnosis
Liz Park, is participating in The World’s Longest Yoga Chain and has a personal reason for getting involved. A few years ago Liz was diagnosed with breast cancer and thus started her battle with cancer and a new philosophy towards de-stressing her life.
Along with medical treatment Liz changed her diet, began meditation and took up yoga, “to me, meditation is the opposite of stress – and therefore essential to any chance of recovery. Once I had learned this, I decided to take up yoga, not merely as a series of exercises to keep the body trim, but a means to still the mind.”
Liz became so passionate about yoga that upon completing the majority of her surgery she decided to enrol in a Qi yoga teacher training diploma.
The world’s Longest Yoga Chain is being held on Liz’s birthday and she is excited to be involved in a fundraiser that will not only help to raise important funds for Cancer Council’s Pink Ribbon but will also give people the opportunity to get involved in yoga and have some fun.
All fundraising dollars go towards helping Cancer Council NSW fight breast and gynaecological cancers through research, prevention and support services for patients and their families.
You don’t have to be bendy to join the fun as the three yoga poses being used to judge the world record attempt are easy. If you can sit, stand and lie down you can join in.
