How an encounter with a stranger in the supermarket left Pink in tears.

A stranger made Pink cry this week. In public. In the supermarket, in fact. But there’s no need to start seeing red, loyal fans.

Because the way the superstar singer tells it, it was actually quite a beautiful encounter.

The 38-year-old, who is mother to two children – Willow, age six, and Jameson, age one – wrote on Twitter this week how the woman approached her in the grocery store to thank her for sharing the realities of being a mum.

“[She] told me some nice words about how she gets strength from my parenting cause I’m not afraid to fuck up in public,” Pink wrote.

“We cried together. It’s so hard. Y’all. I wish us mamas could give ourselves and each other a break.”

Pink has been incredibly open about the struggles and joys of motherhood, and routinely posts to social media about breastfeeding, post-baby body positivity and her #momfails.

The latest, her daughter’s concerned letter to Santa that their Elf on the Shelf “has been in the same spot for three days”. (“#elfonthesamedamnshelf”)

Among her most impactful sharenting moments, though, was the stirring, vulnerable acceptance speech she delivered at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards in August.

After being handed the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, the ‘Beautiful Trauma’ singer used the platform to share a message of female empowerment and self esteem, inspired by a recent conversation with her daughter.

“She told me, ‘Mama, I’m the ugliest girl I know.’ She was like, ‘I look like a boy with long hair.’ My brain went to, ‘Oh my God, you’re six, where is this coming from?’”

Pink then shared that she then made a slideshow for their little girl filled with “androgynous rockstars and artists that live their truth, are probably made fun of every day of their life, but carry on and wave their flag and inspire the rest of us.” Stars like Prince, Janis Joplin, David Bowie and Elton John.

“I said to her, we don’t change, we help other people to change so they can see more kinds of beauty.

“You, my darling girl, are beautiful and I love you.”

Well, damn. Now we’re all crying.
