Is all this hiding and careful cropping really worth it?

Lara Bingle knows the world wants to see a photo of her baby.

Ever since the 27-year-old model/designer/possible entrepreneur gave birth to her son, Rocket Zot Worthington, in March of this year, she’s been playing us.

She knows that with every Instagram filter and carefully curated post, she’s stringing along hundreds of thousands of followers who want to see an image of her kid.

Sure, you can peer at grainy photographs that paparazzi have taken while she’s wandering around New York City. But if you want to give her the small bit of privacy she has left, you’ll keep waiting.

Here’s what we have so far.

A photo of feet belonging to a baby. It’s a bit blurred, a little artistic, VERY Bingle. But how do we know for sure that it’s her baby? Of course we don’t.

Flash forward to today, Father’s Day in America, and there’s this.

A shot of Worthington, from the back. A tiny hand, obscured from view by Worthington’s fingers. A quarter of a face.

Bingle’s not the only one. Celebrities have been stringing us along via social media for years.

There’s the classic hand shot, of course. Like the one Ryan Reynolds posted of his and Blake Lively’s baby earlier this year.

Then there are non-baby-related teasing. Like when Carrie Bradshaw (aka Sarah Jessica Parker) posted a photo of herself surrounded by photographers, holding a shopping bag. “Well. I guess the cat’s out of the (little brown) bag. As usual, we will keep you posted on every detail as we are able. I’m under a strict gag order until then. Xx, Sj.”

Fans went into a frenzy. But of course, it wasn’t an unofficial announcement about Sex and the City 3. It was a blatant self-promotion of her new shoe line.

It’s not a new tool, but it is an effective one.

And while you could say it’s kind of cruel to torment your followers, you could also say it’s absolutely hilarious. And for Sarah Jessica Parker, a great way to market her business.
