Why was THIS photo banned from Instagram? The reason will make you shake your head in disbelief

Banned despite hundreds of other photos just like it on the social media site.

Banned for violating the site’s community guidelines preventing nude or “mature” images.

The ban sparking outrage among thousands of users.

So what makes this ‘butt selfie’ so different from others before it?

Why is this one not acceptable but that of Kim Kardashian or of ‘butt selfie queen’ Jen Selter is allowed?

Well the woman in question thinks that it is because HER butt selfie is fat.

Meghan regularly posts images of herself.

The woman who posted it says, “I was completely covered, but fat. Therefore, pornographic.”

Meghan Tonjes, a musician and video blogger from Los Angeles, shared an image of her butt selfie wearing a pair of black bikini briefs and T-shirt, captioned ‘booty appreciation #honormycurves #effyourbeautystandards’ on Instagram.

Meghan regularly posts images of her body and says she is proud of how she looks.

She said she has admiration for her curves and she loves how she is ageing.

But Instagram didn’t approve and informed her the image ‘violates their nudity laws’ and the site took it down.

Meghan was furious and responded to the social media via another social media app. YouTube.

She made a video where she addressed the issue in which she said Instagram had double-standards. She said that the notion of society being uncomfortable with a picture because it defies the ‘normal’ standards of beauty that we have set for ourselves does not mean an image is invalid.

The video has now had over 100,000 views.

In the video, she said this type of culture was leading to “things like rape culture” where body-normal activities such as breastfeeding were sexualized and deemed inappropriate.

“Just because people are uncomfortable doesn’t mean it’s against community guidelines,” Meghan said.

Meghan told The Huffington Post, “I made the video to bring awareness to the lack of customer service for Instagram. I also made it to address how we see a thinner woman wearing a bathing suit or underwear and we find that normal, but when we see a larger body we shy away from it. I used to be 320 pounds, so it’s important for me to share the changes my body has gone through and show other women that it’s okay to feel comfortable with themselves.”

Yesterday, Instagram apologised to Meghan and restored her butt selfie to her account.

‘We try hard to find a good balance between allowing people to express themselves creatively and keeping Instagram a fun and safe place. Our guidelines put limitations on nudity and mature content, but we recognise that we don’t always get it right. In this case, we made a mistake and have since restored the content.’

Commentators such as Christopher Koulouris questioned whether it was a mistake. “A mistake or a judgment call that only allows for contentious images as long as they fit the preferred stereotype or celebrity cult fixation?”

Meghan is thrilled her picture has been restored and told the USA Today Show. “At the end of the day, I just want to be able to walk down the street and wear shorts like any other girl.”

“Loving your body and being comfortable with it is one of the most rebellious things you can do in this world. It’s a body revolution and there are people who don’t like it and want to fight against it.”
