Peter Stefanovic has a shiny new job with one of Australia's longest-running TV shows.

Channel Nine journalist Peter Stefanovic has announced he will be taking on an exciting new television role in 2017.

The Weekend Today co-host told his fans on Friday that he would be leaving breakfast TV to take on a full-time reporting role with Channel 9’s current affairs program, 60 Minutes.

Stefanovic, who is engaged to Today Show news presenter Sylvia Jeffreys, made the announcement with a photo of himself and 60 Minutes reporters Liz Hayes and Charles Wooley.

“Excited to announce that next year I’ll be working alongside these two legends full time!” he captioned the image.

60 Minutes is one of Australia’s longest running investigative shows but t has recently been embroiled in controversy, including the bungled child recovery in Lebanon and the six-figure payment to Gable Tostee.

Stefanovic has featured on the TV show, as well as A Current Affair, on a casual basis and is no doubt thrilled with the promotion to full-time.

Peter spent part of the morning with big brother Karl, who posted a photo of a tasty-looking breakfast for his brother to Instagram, with a birthday message written on the plate.

“Because every brother should receive a toasted schnitzel bacon egg cheese and bbq sauce roll from their bro on a special day. Love. X,” Karl captioned the image.

Meanwhile, Sylvia Jeffreys posted a throwback snap of their holiday in Europe, captioning the image “Happy birthday to my favourite mate”.
