A 35-year-old Yanchep man has been charged with two counts of murder over the deaths of his children, aged three and five.
The bodies of the children were discovered by officers who forced their way into the home on Flight Vista in Yanchep, in Perth’s north about 10:30pm on Thursday.
The man is under police guard in hospital in a serious but stable condition with self-inflicted wounds, and will face a bedside court hearing in the near future.
Police have declined to say what led them to the house, and said the events prior to the children’s deaths were forming part of their investigation.
Two ‘cheeky monkeys’ remembered
The children’s grandmother, Georgina, said her three-year-old grandson and five-year-old granddaughter “were gold, they were more than gold to me”.
Georgina said she last saw the children on the long weekend last month, when they came to stay with her.
“Two little cheeky monkeys – they used to jump up and down on the lounge,” she told the ABC.
She said the children’s mother, a fly-in, fly-out worker, was not at the house at the time, and neither was another daughter, aged 15.
