Australian actor Penny Cook, best known for her role as Vicky Dean Bowen in Australian television series A Country Practice, has died at age 61.
According to a statement, the mother of one died of cancer.
The statement referred to Cook as a “beloved partner, mother, daughter, sister and dear friend.
“The family wish to express their thanks for all messages of condolence forwarded to them.”
Born in 1957, Cook attended Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art before landing her role in A Country Practice in 1981. Her portrayal of Vicky Dean won her two Logies for the NSW Most Popular Female.
The actor was also known for her roles in Australian television series The Restless Years, The Flying Doctors and as presenter of The Great Outdoors between 1993 and 1996.
She also worked in the 2006 film Candy, and the 2010 television series, Rake.
