Ian Thorpe may never swim again.

Australian Olympic swimmer, Ian ‘Thorpedo’ Thorpe, is currently in hospital facing the prospect of losing the use of his left arm, after he contracted an infection in a Swiss hospital. The 31-year-old gold medallist is under constant medical care since the bug progressed after he underwent a shoulder operation near his home in Switzerland. Close friends have reportedly said that he won’t be able to use his left arm again, while his manager, James Erskine, says only that his condition is “serious but not life threatening.” Thorpe has since been flown home to Sydney for further medical treatment. The news of the swimmer’s condition comes just before another Olympic swimmer, Stephanie Rice, today announced her retirement from the pool.

Geldof sisters mourn the loss of Peaches.

Pixie Geldof has been spotted in public for the first time since news of her sister Peaches' death broke yesterday. The 23-year-old arrived at her father Sir Bob Geldof's home in South-West London where oldest sister, 31-year-old Fifi, is said to be looking after her family, including young Tiger Lily. Fifi took to Instagram last night to express her grief, posting a photo of her and Peaches when they were kids (right). With no reported signs of drug use or self-harm, speculation about the 25-year-old mother-of-two's death is currently focused on a possible heart attack related to extreme dieting. The star had spoken publicly of her enthusiasm for juice-only cleanses.

Abandoned baby Mai reunited with her mother.

The baby girl, nicknamed 'Mai', who was found abandoned on the doorstep of a Sydney home yesterday will soon be reunited with her mother. 18-month-old baby Mai is currently being looked after in foster care but is expected to be with her mother soon. The 24-year-old mother was taken into custody last night after she turned herself into Auburn police. They will live in immigration housing near Villawood detention centre while they wait for their immigration status to be resolved. A spokeswoman for Scott Morrison has said that "both mother and child are well." It's currently unknown where the father of baby Mai is.

Oscar Pistorius lets out 'primitive howl' during testimony.

The Oscar Pistorius murder trial was brought to a halt this morning when Pistorius became inconsolable during day two of giving testimony. Accused of killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valentine's Day, 2013, Pistorius told of how he returned to bed after firing shots at an 'intruder' through his locked toilet door and "that's when everything changed." Pistorious explained that when he realised Reeva wasn't in bed he screamed "like I've never screamed before", before bashing the door down with a cricket bat. "I sat over Reeva and I cried. I don't know how long I was there for," he said. Pistorioius then broke down and the courtroom was filled with the sound of the both the Steenkamp and Pistorioius families crying.

Queenslanders prepare for Cyclone Ita

A severe tropical cyclone is fast approaching the coastline of far North Queensland and causing locals to prepare for the worst. Cyclone Ita is already being compared to Cyclone Yasi from 2011, and has set off severe warnings for areas from Cape Grenville to Port Douglas. The cyclone is expected to reach a category 4, according to the Bureau of Meteorology, when it hits on Friday with winds up to 280km/h. Lizard Island Resort has already evacuated its guests and staff with Ita likely to hit the island tonight.
