Inquest confirms Peaches Geldof took heroin before she died.

An Inquiry hears details of the mother’s final hours.

Authorities have confirmed that heroin “likely” played a role in Peaches Geldof’s sudden death last month, confirming the rumours reported yesterday from a leaked document.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Fotheringham of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate told an inquest into the mum of two’s death that a post-mortem examination was inconclusive. This will prompt further tests.

However, the presence of heroin was confirmed in Geldof’s system.

“There was recent use of heroin and the levels identified were likely to have played a role in her death,” Inspector Fotheringham said.

Geldof’s husband, Thomas Cohen, found her on April 7 in an upstairs bedroom “slumped forward across the bed.” She was pronounced dead at the scene.

It was also revealed that while Geldof’s elder son, Astala, was with Thomas visiting Cohen’s parents, her 11-month old son, Phaedra, was with her at the time of her death.

Thomas had left Peaches at their country home on Thursday evening to take the couple’s two boys to his parents’ home in south-east London for the weekend.

“This is a normal occurrence which enables Peaches and Thomas to complete work in their respective careers,” said Inspector Fotheringham. “It is believed that Peaches spent Saturday afternoon, into the evening, and Sunday morning at her home address alone.”

Then on Sunday evening, Cohen’s father dropped Phaedra back to Peaches and spent about half an hour with her before leaving.

The next morning, Thomas couldn’t contact his wife, and he, his mother and Astala travelled to the family home, where he found Peaches slumped on the bed and Phaedra in the house.

In relation to concerns of suicide, Inspector Fotheringham said that even though Geldof had spent the weekend alone and posted a photo of her and her deceased mother on social media, she had been in contact with friends and family who all reported she seemed her normal self and was making plans for the future.

Unfortunately, the story is a sad déjà vue for the family with Geldof’s mother, Paula Yates, who died of a drug overdose in 2000 when Geldof was 11.
