'Celebrities keep pulling PR stunts and I'm officially exhausted.'

Well, this is awkward. Apparently, Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson were never actually dating.

After enjoying every moment of the The Naked Gun press tour — from the flirting, to them gushing about each other in interviews, to their coy refusal to confirm the rumours — there's sad news for romantics like me today. According to TMZ, anonymous sources with "direct knowledge" of Anderson and Neeson's relationship have confirmed that the whole thing was nothing more than a PR stunt for the movie.

And, look, I can't say I'm surprised. But honestly? I'm taking this one personally.

I'll be the first to admit that I was absolutely here for this romance. The whole thing felt like a warm hug to me, and I know I wasn't the only one. We were charmed by the idea that these two seasoned actors could have formed a genuine romantic connection later in life. For a moment, it seemed like our favourite rom-com trope was playing out in real life, and let's be honest, we were all quietly rooting for them.

When Neeson gushed about being "madly in love" with his co-star; when the pair adorably held hands during an interview; when they held each other on the red carpet? It gave us a reason to believe in Hollywood romances again.

But it was all a lie, and I have had it. So, I'm officially declaring myself exhausted by celebrity PR relationships. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! When us romantics get a win? I would like one — just one! — of these Hollywood relationships to be confirmed as true for once.

You'd think I would have learnt my lesson after the Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell debacle. Remember when we all collectively lost our minds over their Anyone But You chemistry? They were also just friends, of course. But did I learn?Apparently not. Here I am, just two years later, falling for the exact same playbook with Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson. It's a stark reminder that we are, after all, in the age of celebrity PR relationships, and we should know better.

In hindsight, the signs were all there, weren't they? Two actors promoting a movie together suddenly discovering that they're soulmates? During press tour season? What are the odds?!

But where does this leave us? Probably a bit more cynical about any celebrity couple that emerges during a major film release or press tour. Not to be dramatic, but the next time a celebrity romance emerges during awards season or right before their movie hits cinemas, I refuse to participate.

Because, honestly, I don't think I can handle being played like this again. From now on, I'm approaching every celebrity "relationship" with the same energy I bring to reading terms and conditions — complete and utter scepticism.

Or at least… that's what I want to say. But who am I kidding? I'm still a hopeless romantic at heart. The next time two attractive celebrities start making googly eyes at each other during a press tour, I'll probably be right back here, analysing their body language and wondering if this time — THIS time — it might actually be real.

Because despite all evidence to the contrary, I still want to believe that sometimes, just sometimes, the Hollywood fairy tale might be true.

The Naked Gun is in cinemas now, which is exactly what they wanted me to say. So there you go.
