Family day care is now open overnight for shift workers.

Forget family day care, there is now an overnight child care service available for shift workers.

Sydneysider Alex Blake came up with the idea after working at a traditional day care centre.

“I know a lot of nurses and wondered how they juggled child care and work. I realised how restricting day care hours were for parents,” she said.

The 29-year-old mother says child care should be available for parents in all occupations.

"Shift working parents suddenly find themselves disadvantaged when they have a child. I hope to assist those parents," she says.

Nite Care has just been launched in the inner western Sydney suburb of Ashfield and caters for children under 10 years old. As a family day (night) care Blake is licensed for up to four children per night.

The business is open between the hours of 6pm and 6.30am, with affordable options for flexible care.

Blake, who has a four-year-old son, manages the child care service alongside a child care educator who cares for the children and stays awake while they are sleeping.

"I have gone to sleep school with my son and I am constantly keeping up to date on sleep techniques for children," Blake says.

"The most common theme is consistency in your approach and that's what I provide to the children in my care. I welcome every parent's method for settling their child and will work with them to offer a seamless transition."

Blake says Nite Care provides an affordable "safe environment" for children.

"I offer a flexible and nurturing service that focuses on making child care easier for shift working parents."
