The sexy stars of the Outlander prequel on exactly how they nailed their chemistry.

Outlander fans, your time has come.

The prequel TV series, Outlander: Blood Of My Blood, is debuting on August 9 on Stan, and is a prequel series to Outlander, which follows Claire, a WWII nurse who time travels to 18th-century Scotland and falls for Jamie.

It has it all: love, time-travel, history, hot people and LOTS of sex. And the prequel is set to be just as enchanting.

Outlander: Blood Of My Blood explores the origins of Jamie and Claire's families, telling the tale of Jamie's parents, Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy), whose forbidden romance unfolds amid Highland clan rivalries.

Then there's Claire's parents, Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine), whose love story begins during World War I.

In a chat with on-screen lovers, Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy, they both spilled that they had never even watched the original Outlander before being cast in the prequel.

"We were not necessarily fans — not that we were not fans — but we just hadn't ever seen it before being cast in Blood of My Blood, but we are definitely now both fans," Slater divulged.

Roy admitted that the two leading actors decided to watch the entire series at the same time.

"We've watched all seven seasons. We're watching at the same time at our own respective places in Glasgow to the point where we text each other like live, 'Oh my God, did you just see what Jamie said to Claire?' It was quite fun to share it with someone," he said.

For Hermione Corfield, who plays Claire's mother, she also had to do a refresher when she was cast. "I'd seen it about six years ago, so I revisited it again when I got this part," she said.

Interestingly, the actors signed on without knowing what their characters' fates were in the first season of the series.

"Things are so secret on big shows like this, I only really got to see the first episode, or maybe the first two episodes," Corfield admitted.

"I pretty much signed on blind. You kind of only have a rough idea of the character… you just go off the small details."

Slater strapped herself in for a rollercoaster ride. "It's very unpredictable; neither of us could guess what was gonna happen," she added.

"It was always so exciting when we got a new script because we genuinely had no idea where the story was going to go. When we got offered the parts, we only had the first two episodes… I didn't know anything more than that — it's a ride."

Like the original Outlander, the prequel hinges on the chemistry between the lovers. Roy joked that he cast a love spell on his co-star which helped with their chemistry.

"In terms of building chemistry on the first day of set, I slipped a love potion into Harriet's coffee, and she tried it and she was like, 'Does this coffee taste funny?'" he joked.

"I was like, 'No, don't think so, but make sure you finish it because you seem a little bit sleepy today.'"

Did it work? "It wore off pretty quickly, it only lasted about 20 minutes," Slater sarcastically stated.

More seriously, the intimate scenes were something that had to be carefully executed on set.

"The show is known for it [the sex scenes] but it's only because they do it so well. When we approached it, we'd have to make sure that it made sense in the story and it progressed the story," Roy said.

"It wasn't just thrown in there for a quota or anything, it's like these characters changed from the beginning to the end of these scenes."

The co-stars worked with an intimacy coordinator to learn the choreography for the scenes.

"In terms of actually shooting them, it was kind of like a dance, wasn't it?" Roy pondered.

"Yeah, we'd rehearsed it all beforehand and choreographed it so we knew exactly what we were going to have to do on the day," replied Slater.

"Nothing was thrown at us in the moment and it felt like a very collaborative process. We had multiple discussions beforehand with the director, producers, each other and with the intimacy coordinator — making sure that we were all happy with it, and all on the same page," she continued.

"We knew exactly what was required of us so that on the day, we could not worry about the physical side of it and just focus on the performance and the connection between the two of us."

For Corfield, she had to strike a fine balance of portraying Claire's mother Julia, without imitating Caitríona Balfe as Claire.

"I never wanted to do an impression of Caitríona's performance. Particularly because she was separated when Claire was five," she said.

"As there's a combination of nature and nurture, she's picked up some traits of her mother — there's a core part of her that is similar — but I definitely wanted Julia to be her own character."

When Slater got the role, she was at a crossroads in her life. "It came at the perfect time actually, because my tenancy was about to end in my flat in London and I was like, 'I don't know where I'm gonna live next. I don't know where I was gonna go, genuinely'.

"Then this job came and I was like, I guess I'm moving to Glasgow then. I moved up and immediately felt very at home there," she said.

Blood of My Blood was filmed in the Scottish city, which the cast and crew quickly embraced as their new home.

Slater thanked her scene partner for helping her settle in, as Roy was born and raised in Glasgow.

"I felt very, very welcome, and I think that was largely due to Jamie. He took everyone under his wing and showed us the town, took us out, booked the dinners, arranged the karaoke nights, which were extremely bonding experiences," she said.

(In case you were wondering, Jamie's go-to karaoke song is 'Your Song' by Elton John, while Harriet has a penchant for Avril Lavigne.)

Corfield also praised the filming location. "Glasgow's a great city, I love it. It's got a great energy, amazing restaurants — it's just a beautiful place," she said.

Roy still recalled how special the first day of filming felt for the young cast immersing themselves in the mystical Scottish Highlands.

"It's so funny because Outlander is all about traveling through to a different time. And honestly, the first time I remember putting on the costume… it felt like you had just jumped through the stones because, it doesn't take much for your imagination to think, 'Wow, I am actually here.'"

The enduring appeal of Outlander is something that Corfield summed up perfectly.

"It's a great combination of escapism and romance, but layered with real history and events that actually happened," she said.

"Then there's the folklore and the fairies and the time travel — it gives such a magical air in the Scottish Highlands."

And in more good news, Outlander: Blood of My Blood is already filming a second season.

"It's such a treat. It still blows my mind that we get paid to do this thing. We get paid to get dressed up and play around and put on voices," Slater said.

"It genuinely is such a fun job. I'm very glad that we're back for a second season."

The cast appreciates how rare it is for a show to get a second season even before the first has aired.

"I was thrilled. For it to be greenlit before Season 1 has come out is huge," Corfield added.

"It's a lovely thing to know that there's faith in the show and, faith that people will continue to want to watch the story."

The Stan Exclusive Series Outlander: Blood of my Blood premieres August 9, followed by new episodes every Saturday, only on Stan in Australia.
