James Packer: ‘My personal life is a disaster’

Australian billionaire businessman James Packer has opened up to Forbes Magazine about how his career success has left his personal life in tatters. Packer currently owns a multi-billion-dollar casino empire and is the second richest man in the country, but it seems this isn’t enough to keep him happy. He’s told the mag, as part of their annual release of the world’s billionaires, that his home life is a ‘disaster’ because he’s made ‘a bunch of mistakes in [his] life.’ Following his ‘marriage breakdown last year’ with ex-wife Erica Packer and a rumoured fling with supermodel Miranda Kerr, Packer says he’s ‘just trying to do the best job I can. I’m trying to be the best father I can to my kids.’

Oscar Pistorius trial hears of ‘bloodcurdling screams’

The trial of Paralympian Oscar Pistorius has begun in South Africa, with Pistorius pleading not guilty to murdering his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. Michelle Burger is the first witness to give evidence and told the court she and her husband woke at around 3am to the sound of “bloodcurdling screams’’ coming from the Pistorius home. “She screamed terribly and she yelled for help,’’ Ms Burger said “It was something you can’t explain to someone else, how anxious those screams were. Just after her screams, I heard shots, four shots. Bang, bang, bang, bang." Pistorius' trial will continue to be broadcast live across the world.

Schapelle may be going back to jail

Indonesia's Justice Minister, Amir Syamsuddin, may revoke accused drug-smuggler, Schapelle Corby's bail within days. Since viewing the Seven Network's Sunday Night footage, Syamsuddin has revealed that he will make a decision within the week, saying, 'I am waiting for a complete report from the Bali Corrections Board and in the meantime I'd like to announce that there's a possibility I will revoke Corby's parole.'

Teen sues her parents to pay for college 

Rachel Canning, an 18-year-old student at Morris Catholic High School in New Jersey, has filed a lawsuit against her own parents, Sean and Elizabeth. The honours student  is suing her parents for financial support in order to 'force them to pay for her college education.' Rachel claims that her parents have cut her out of their lives, 'financially and emotionally' ever since her 18th birthday. She said 'my parents have rationalised their actions by blaming me for not following their rules.' Rachel's high school have advised her not to return home.

Cate: 'I slept with Oscar last night'

Following her Academy Award win for Best Actress last night, Cate Blanchett appeared on the Ellen Degeneres show today and brought her Oscar along with her. The 44-year-old Australian actress revealed that she slept with the gold statue 'Oscar' all night and that it was 'the closest my husband and I have ever come to a threesome.' Both Ellen and Cate were exhausted from the Oscars after-party celebrations, with the popular host offering Cate Advil, bananas, coffee and throwing a blanket over her.
